Haven't posted here in a while. Just wanted to say that this should be a classic.

Good review.

This is a phenomenal album and one that still sounds relevant today.

My complete indifference to this album is why I have concluded that I will never like any Stoner or Doom metal.

Wierd thing is that other than DOWN (and maybe High on Fire/Mastodon IF they fit into this genre) I can't stand much Stoner or Doom.

But DOWN writes some awesomely catchy and memorable yet sludgetastic songs.

I love both this one and the 2nd one. I haven't heard the 3rd one yet.

Oh man, remember watching them support Metallica a couple of years ago. There was a lot of hype aound this band back then. And they just sucked so bad.

Haven't listened to this in maybe 5 years and it was pretty meh back then.

Indifference to this album shouldn't stop you from checking out Baroness, High on Fire or the whole plethora of awesome Doom like Reverend Bizarre, Candlemass, etc.

I know. I was just commenting on Adveser's mention of it.

I've heard a couple Candlemass album actually. It wasn't as slow and brooding as the word "doom" implies, actually. I remember some guy sounding an awful lot like tom jones, though.

Slow just doesn't work for me. I think it i yet another case that the key they're playing in doesn't match the tempo.

I love akercocke playing slow. Anyone know of any Doom that is written in C tuning?

When I was a lad, Doom used to be stuff like My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. Then it became Candlemass who used to just be a heavy metal band and Cathedral who were Stoner Metal.

DOWN was Stoner and now it's Doom and tommorrow it's Death Tripgrindhop.

Huh Candlemass has always been Doom.

No one said Down was a doom metal band. They are sludgey/stoner/alt. metal band. Considering the TEMPO of those bands, in generally, I concluded that no matter what the hell is it, slow usually sucks in my opinion, including doom. Is all this too nuanced for some people or what?

Yeah. That doesn't make any sense to name an album "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" or whatever the fuck it was if they weren't considered and epic doom metal band.
