So far all the songs I know have been ones that end albums too!

Mr. Crowley is the opening track to the b-side of Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz and Limelight is the 4th song on Moving Pictures (and was closing the original a-side of the vinyl).

It depends on the local market as to what gets played on a classic rock stations. There seems to be two kinds of classic rock stations. One that plays Metallica, Guns N Roses and Led Zeppelin...and one that plays steely dan, led zeppelin and the beatles. Both play a lot of Boston, Foreigner and other AOR. The more "oldies" oriented one doesn't play as much Rush, nor will they play the extended setlist of Rush songs the more modern one will play.

Classic Rock is either a great place to start listening to classic hard rock and metal or they won't play metal at all and play a lot more top 40 pop/rock and yatch rock.

There is a third format that just stuck with the more modern intepretation and plays current stuff by those bands and throws some non-pop alternative into the mix.

And there is a fourth format that pretty much died out in the early 2000's that plays strictly AOR. You won't hear the beatles or eddie money, but you will never hear anything that was a top 40 hit that didn't dominate the rock chart as well.

The ending of X Japan's "Art of Life" comes to mind, where the instruments abruptly stop and Toshi belts out the word "Life" that seems to stretch on for ages.

The ending of Dream Theater's "Finally Free" gets me, too. Though that has more to do with concept than actual music.

and the ending of the album merges into the beginning of Six Degrees. I think they did this for three or four albums straight.

Yep, they did. Not that I'd want to listen to four DT albums straight.

Mayhem - Psychic Horns

is probably the most intense ending I can think of at the moment.

Cryptopsy - (Exit) The Few

Since it's the last song on The Unspoken King, you will cherish the ending to this track most vividly.

Angra - The Shadow Hunter

Good power/prog that starts very melo and ends with an awesome vocal performance by Edu, plus the vocal harmonies of Kiko and Raf give me chills every time.
