Well that was short. Can you tell me how it compares to their previous efforts?

Really short, and vague. I couldn't read in the review why it deserves a 95 and the album of the year award. I don't want an extense review, just try to be more coherent and accurate.

Short aye, stupidly so as most of mine are, but vague I'm not too sure I can agree with. As far as I'm aware I covered the songwriting, production and atmosphere, probably could've commented on the performances a bit more admittedly. I could have said more, but would me fawning over every track add anything else to the review? I didn't think so, so didn't feel the need to add it.

Comparing it to the other albums (Waterheart at least), the soundscape elements are more well rounded and expanded, the production's a lot better, much clearer. The vocalist changed as well for this album I think right? There are a lot more clean vocals, the songs themselves have a bit more in them, take maybe "Kilimetros de Nada" from Waterheart which is 10 minutes long and consists of a kind of typical doom/death song and a bit ambient section then the doom/death section again. It's pretty drawn out and structurally more repetitive compared to some of the songs on this album, which are a little shorter overall and have more progression in each song. The closest thing to that track from the new album would be "A Sea of Dead Comets", which is about 2 minutes shorter and accomplishes a lot more.

Why the high score and AOTY? I liked it. A lot. From word go. It's refreshing to listen to and of the 7 or 8 times I've had it on today I've only found myself becoming more attached to the thing.

Anything else?

I remember listening to some songs of Waterheart a long time ago. I liked them but for some reason I forgot about these guys. Seems I should give Waterheart and this one another listen.

Forget Waterheart, their debut is so much better you'll have difficulty understanding just how bad their sophomore effort is in comparison. Almost like a different band.

Been meaning to check their debit out for a while, but this a big step up from the last one.

After listening to the song they have posted on their myspace a few times, I can't help draw the comparison between them and the (Brazilian?) prog metalers Oblique Rain. MDG is heavier yes and uses harsher vocals, but sonically they are very similar. As someone who was quite amazed with the previous Oblique Rain album, I'll definitely look to get this when it comes out in the US Sep. 14
