Made me think of programmed drums on Devin Townsend's Ziltoid. Doesn't completely ruin it but fake drums are the worst.
I don't like fake drums either, but I think it's a mentality thing with Ziltoid. You probably knew in advance that the drums were fake so you automatically thought it would suck. I didn't know they were fake until a year after I'd been listening to Ziltoid, because they sounded surprisingly natural to me.
