This maybe an album worth checking out from the band, though I'm only familiar with "Imaginations from the other side". As long is there is some of an element of their older speed metal sound, then this band is always one that I could tolerate.

Valkyries not a killing song? WOW! I thought it was one of the best ones on there!

This should have scored higher. This is BG's best since Nighfall.

I'm not sure if it'll reach my top 10 for the year but for now at least I quite like it. Oddly enough most of my favorite songs are the least Metal ones.

Matter of opinion, of course. I prefer A Night at the Opera to both Nightfall and this. At the Edge of Time sure beats A Twist in the Myth, though, and it's an album I'm very impressed with. It just doesn't break any new ground, is all. You gotta look at it from a reviewer's perspective.

This is a good album.

Nothing more. Nothing less. A good combination of the past 20 years of sound. For me, it is too middle of the line. Rather than indulging in each of their sounds, they take nibbles instead of bites. I also miss the "happy" melodies like in Mirror Mirror or And Then There was Silence.

You know the ones.

It is a more consistent album than Twist in the Myth, which only had about 4 memorable songs. But all 4 of those memorable songs are better than most of this album. They spread the wealth I guess.

A good review, although you don't say much about the greatest and most noticeable song on the album, Wheel of Time. And if that doesn't count as "breaking new ground", I don't know what is. Also you got the logic of Blind Guardian wrong on your first sentence of your review. Blind Guardian never think about copying themselves and "playing it safe", no matter if the album is successful or not, and that's the main difference between them and the majority of the power metal scene. This last album may borrow more elements from their past work than A night at the Opera and A twist in the myth, but this is too a unique album compared to the previous ones. Finally, part of the percussions that you mentioned on Curse My Name was riverdancing. All in all, a very good review however, and I agree that Control the Divine and Valkyries are the least interesting tracks, but good nonetheless.

Agreed 100%. It seems to be one of the least liked songs on the album but I think it's great. The chorus is just so damn awesome. I do agree on Control The Divine but that's really the only track I skip over. Overall a really good album....not their best but still really good. My favourites are Sacred Worlds, Ride Into Obsession, Valkyries, Curse My Name, and Wheel Of Time.

88/100

On another note, there appears to be some production issues with the album as discussed here. Now I'm able to hear the issues on Wheel Of Time and Sacred Worlds but I cannot for the life of me hear the beeping that's supposed to be on Curse My Name, and that one is supposedly the most glaring problem. Anyway, they're only minor problems as far as I'm concerned and they don't hinder the overall listening experience.

Finally I just want to say that this album is awesome to play on Audiosurf. :D

I hear a high-pitched whine on Curse My Name during the tap-dancing part. Probably because I'm so young and use earplugs at concerts.

It seems that if there is one power metal album I should check out this year, it is this one. The review has got me interested. Great job.

I agree, as I mentioned in another thread that I personally would have scored this higher.

A score of 95/100 from me. I think this is their 3rd best album after Nightfall and Imaginations.

90 for me. 5th better BG album (Imaginations, Nighfall, Somewhere, Tales are better). But a great return to shape after Twist and Opera.

It is about time Blind Guardian released an epic song about the Wheel of Time. But where are the seven verses narrating Elayne's struggle to decide which dress to wear?

Absolutely love this album. I like how they combined their earlier thrashier sound with the later, more progressive style. A quarter of a century old but they've still got the goods. Amazing. Killer album!

Great album. Look here for song meanings:

I love them so much for writing songs about Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire.

AWESOME album. Being an Extreme Metal focused guy, this might be the only Power Metal album I put in my top 15. It's great stuff.

Killer Album :dio: This one beats out the new Nevermore for me. I am suprised by how many people don't get 'Control the Divine'? IMO the best chorus on the album and my 2nd fav song after 'Tanelorn'. Yeah and 'Valkries' is great too!

And don't listen to all of these 'A Twist in the Myth' critics cause you'll be missing out on a great album!
