I liked the album back then, but I grew tired of it really quick. It's a good album, but a bit generic. 92 is a bit high, 80 for me.

Best thing about this album is Kris Verwimp's cover, the music itself is not very interesting or original. The guy was obviously going for an epic feeling but imo it doesn't deliver. If epic means boring you to death then epic it is. Even his voice is just as boring as the songs. True, there are some good moments (Wings of Fire, bits from other songs) but they don't last long. It has potential though, so I'll be following Crom hoping he'd release a mind blowing album one day.

I have to wonder what were you going for by including AA and Turisas in the review? Maybe someone who also doesn't like those bands might think you are on to something with Crom. Still, I think even the weakest AA is better than this.

You are way off man, and I spoke of AA and Turisas not mainly by style but with the battle/viking atmosphere.

This is indeed mind-blowing, and way better than any of the other incredibly shit power metal being released day in and day out.

I have to agree with metal_xxx here. I was so pleased to hear an album with this imagery that was not knee deep in the now cliche' constant double bass drum driving rhythm, soaring vocals (or grunting muppet vocals for that matter), and lyrical visions of dragons. The album is paced well, the vocal/symphonic arrangements are done tastefully, the lyrics are not dreadfully Tolkienesque, and I can understand every word.

I find it to be a well crafted metal album that isn't cliche' and doesn't fall into the ridicousness of a Manowar/Rhapsody of Fire kind of feel.

This album really surprised me, I was expecting Ensiferum-style folk metal and I got something completely different. At times, it sounds more like melodic hard rock than power metal too me, sorta like Axxis, if Axxis played folk metal. If that makes any sense.

I definitely hear some Bathory in there. This sounds very promising. I'll add this to my list.

The vocals here remind me of Mathias Blad of Falconer. Probably not as good but quite close.

Never got into Falconer. Found these much better to be honest. More lively and distinct.

I tried listening to this, but I couldn't get into it. Must not be my kinda thing. Vocals really killed it.

The vocals sometimes lack energy, it sometimes is too mellow for its own good but it's still decent heavy/folk metal. I wouldn't give it more than a 70 based on my first spin of it but I'll give it another try to see how it grows.

Not only the vocals, but the music underneath as well. "The Starts Will Fall" sounds like a lost Falconer song. Some parts also remind me of Orden Ogan as well, like they used the same producer or something.

Vocals are actually pretty awesome in spots. However some choruses are definitely overproduced, and what's up with the auto-tune?

Songwriting is interesting, definitely above average.

 at Amon Amarth/Turisas insults
