What are some habits or tendencies you stick to when you buy music? Are you interested in buying albums from band's you've heard of, or do you stick to recommended bands or ones that are up you're alley in terms of sound? Are you constantly buying new albums, or back catalogued albums for the sake of owning them?

I mainly buy stuff I've downloaded and listened to a ton. I used to do a monthly online order of about 100$ or so, but nowadays I tend to blow a ton of money on like 10 records at the local store when I go there to pick up concert tickets. Never really tried to collect back catalogues or anything because that's usually hopeless on vinyl so I just jump on whatever I like.

A combination of back catalogue and new releases. Just depends on how I'm feeling that day and what interests me at the time. My most recent order is a combination of back catalogue and pre-ordering new albums.

Mainly filling up dicographies and back catalogues nowadays, since there is very little interesting releases nowadays.

Indie, man.

I must disagree I really enjoy a lot of music that's coming out these days, particularly black metal.

As for " Purchasing habits " the last album I bought was ASOP by In Flames.

No good new releases? I find there is typically 2 or 3 "must buy" new releases for me a month.

Other than that, I take a balanced approach like I do with most things in life, some classics, some back catalogue, some obscure. VERY rarely will I do an impulse buy, as there is just no reason not to check out a band beforehand.

With a mortgage and other commitments, it's a case of merely keeping up with latest releases.

I used to spend AUD$300-$400 a month on CDs back in the day and I brought pretty much anything. A lot of it in hindsight was shit and I sold off/gave off.

Nowadays it's the odd release here and there. Probably averages AUD$30 per month (1 cd).

But unlike the old days I now only buy what I like and I really get to know the albums.

Nowadays I tend to concentrate on spending money on new stuff, trying to support new bands etc. Also things with nice artwork.

Pfft.. There's about 4-5 releases per year that is absolutely brilliant for me, that is the stuff I tend to listen to alot as well.

I download albums first and listen to them a few times. If I like it, I buy it. Usually a mix of new, classics and back catalogue. Although I never go out looking for cd's with a certain "shopping list" in my head. It's usually music I stumble upon while browsing through the cd's and of which I'm certain I like it.

I really focus on certain bands and buy basically all they offer.

Best way to go, in my estimation. Generally, the quality of albums from good bands varies less than we hair-splitter forumites would readily admit.

But whining about it is so much fun!

I agree.

Even when I'd buy 10-15 CD's a month, most were at best average and at worst crap. A lot simply didn't gel with me - hence why I've got rid of hundred's of CD's.

So a total of 12 good albums that I actually like and this is my fave year in music.

I try to download them first, but sometimes I just go crazy on Amazon. Like last night. I had a little to much wine and decided it was a good idea to buy music. We'll see what my bank statement looks like after this one.
