What are these guys trying to achieve with this album? They barely won their fans back after The Scythe and now they want to lose them again?

Why cant they stick to what they do best?

i'd go 75 on this one.

Damn catchy.

And it hasn't gotten dull for me. Yet.

If you can accept that the folk parts mostly gone, it's an enjoyable album.

Much better than the Scythe.

I think the review is way off base. This is a 100% improvement over The Scythe. Every song on here is catchy and memorable and I haven't gotten bored listening to it yet. I still hear plenty of violin and the folk influence comes through a lot more on the previous album. I give this one a 90 for sure. Best thing they've done since Winter Wake.

I totally agree, this is one of their best album yet.
At least 90 I would give it.

Number one, learn how to spell the word "hi". Number two, I'm not a member of Elvenking trying to post a review of my own cd. If I were I'm sure I'd have better things to do...

a 90??? there is no way in hell this album deserves to be called a "masterpiece" in any sense of the word; I suggest you listen to it a few more times

I like how people are all "zomg metalreviews, you have to write about more power metal" and then when we do, something like this happens.

khelek- I never said the album is a masterpiece, I do however think after listening to it several times that it is a phenomenal cd and is a vast improvement over The Scythe. Almost all the songs grabbed me from the first listen and were very memorable.

xexyzl- Still can't figure out how to spell I see? You probably use the words "kewl" and "pawned" and live in your parent's basement. Leave the discussion to the adults and run along now.

Hah, you seriously can't tell that he's fucking with you?

As for this band and this album, they are way overrated. Caught a glimpse of their new video, and it looked, and sounded fucking terrible, and more than reason enough for why I passed it on.

I remember when that song came on during my first listen of the album I thought: "Huh, I guess all Elvenking ever really wanted was radio play."

Sometimes I hate power metal fans.

Anyway, I agree with some of what Khelek said, but for the most part I REALLY like this one. I have been listening to it and the new BG nonstop. This album is catchy, folky, melodic, and is a mixed bag of everything Elvenking have done. 80/100 for me.

Well if you scroll to the bottom of main reviews page, you will see that 90 on this website equates to the low end of "masterpiece." 69 on the other hand is just below "very good." I can understand how someone could rate this within +/- 10 points of my score, but a 90? Come on now. Almost nothing on this album can be considered truly original, it's just a rehash of their catchiest past work with some added power metal cliches. It's a damn catchy album to be sure, but it takes more than that to impress me, especially from a band with this much experience.

I can see your point, maybe a 90 is a little high but I would definitely give it an 80-85. If I listen to an album and remember most of it on the first spin, I consider that a high mark. I'm a sucker for a catchy chorus and/or melodic guitar work. It isn't the most original album but it is a damn enjoyable one.

The same reason why I stayed away from this one. The video and song were crap.

Well you guys are missing out. I have tried to forget the video and remember the band I love, sure enough it worked. This is one good Elvenking album.

Heathenreel
The Winter Wake
Two Tragedy Poets
Red Silent Tides
Wyrd
The Scythe

I kinda like this album as well. If you ignore the fact that the band once had very present folk influences it's quite enjoyable. About a 7/10 or so I'd say.
