Yep. Several that were huge metalheads.

i have met exactly one.

i guess the metal musician base kind of reflects the metal fan base, there are a few blacks in the genre (and some of them giants, like the guys in Suffocation) but it's still odd to run into one these days.

my theory is, metal is a rich person's genre, or at least a genre that poor people don't tend to listen to. blacks are usually poor and thus you don't find many metal fans who are black.

a too-simple way to say that metal fans usually come from wealthier families, like middle class at least.

from my experience, that is definitely the case.

I'd have thought the NWOBHM bands at the very least were total blue-collar stuff. Perhaps some of the modern Deathcore kids might* be posers, but I can't believe that Thrash metallers, Motorheadites, grindcore even black metal etc people are all middle class slummers. Take me, middle-class only through circumstance and politics, despite working in a law firm I earn less than a third of what our country often gives out in benefits to chavs, and I was most def. not slumming it when I discovered teh metalz o'black. Sorry Az, I completely disagree with you there.

I always just thought it was because blacks are more into music with a beat because, in general, they have strong natural rhythm. Most metal is obviously difficult to cut a rug to.

Anyways the last metal show I was at (Katatonia) there was a black couple there with some Meshuggah T-shirts on .. there always seems to be a few.

I think it's just because there's a pretty big cultural divide between white people and black people and metal is definitely on one side of that divide. Same reason there's not very many women at metal shows. It's all nerdy white dudes making noise for other nerdy white dudes.

then why aren't there nerdy black dudes making metal for other nerdy black dudes?

the roots might be in blue-collars (i haven't looked into that), but i'd say most modern fans come from middle-class backgrounds.

most motorheadites and thrashers i see are pretty old.

if one were to divide it into quadrants, i imagine it would be something like

I was under the impression that the Norwegian BM movement was upper middle class in creation, though I have no idea what economic background listens to it.

+1. Az you're argument seems pretty weak and seems relevant only to the last two years since deathcore has become popular if at all.

There was a recent video of a teacher losing it while being heckled by (gasp!) a bunch of black students. If you think this is an isolated occurrence, I have multiple lots out in the NJ swamplands for sale.
I saw this shit going to school, every fucking day, growing up.
What do you expect from a culture that promotes promiscuity, ignorance, slang, thuggery, irresponsibility and victimhood, steeped with a heeping dose of a total lack of impulse control?

well, must be my own experience, then. the ones i met almost always came from middle-class backgrounds or higher.
