I saw them live opening for Hammerfall, and they are not an A-list band, not on any day of the week. However, they are pretty darn fun to watch and listen to.

Never heard of these guys but I'm about to give them a listen. But really, how much artistic value is there in a band whose entire discography are ripoffs of other people's music???

Boy, people are pretty stuffy about this.

"ripping off other people's music" is a really harsh way to say it. I don't really see it as "ripping off," they're just arranging tv themes and video game songs into Metal. It's not ripping off, it's more paying homage than anything.

One thing I find really great about Powerglove's music is the fact that they don't just directly cover TV or videogame music. They take a one or two minute theme and integrate into a much longer song that has many original riffs and melodies. Hell, I'd venture to say that Powerglove wrote more of their own music on this album than they actually covered.

Well, Aerosmith get enough kudos.

But seriously, The Rolling Stones are hardly original, and I love them wholeheartedly. So take no offence, humourless Aerosmith fans.

Exactly. I've now listened to a few songs and these guys are certainly not just a set of guitar and drums covering video game and TV/movie themes. They add in good riffs, solos, double bass, and all that other good stuff you would want in a metal band.

Yes, they are.

They're a nice guilty pleasure but their work isn't original and even in that sense it's good for maybe a song or two in my opinion.

Adding nostalgia to whatever it is that makes me like metal just works for me and that's why I dig Powerglove. I played many of those games, I watched many of those shows and to hear an awesome metal rendition of an old school tune I remember from my childhood makes me happy, it's that simple. Now if you aren't familiar with what they're playing or just don't care for their power metal vibe it's completely understandable if you don't "get it" or whatever. Not saying it's a masterpiece but I do have a good time listening to it.

I wish they would cover the Dr. Who theme song. For some reason I would love to hear that with double bass.

 Their cover of Dancing Mad is the best video game cover ever.

They only cover(ed) Final Fantasy stuff, right? I never really liked Final Fantasy so their music is probably lost on me.

You dont have to recognize the songs to enjoy them, Nobuo Uematsu is a brilliant songwritter.
