It's not a trend when it lasts more than 40 years.

Thinking things are "trendy" is much more trendy than liking a "trendy" band.

There are some bands that are so far ahead of the curve, so innovative and unique, that whether or not likes them, they deserve nothing but respect and admiration.
the Beatles, along with a few others, are one such band.

Completely agreed.

That era (which The Beatles were a huge part of) was a milestone in rock, ergo, it was a milestone for metal.
They have influenced countless musicians to pick up an instrument.
That's not something to just brush aside.

One thing I don't get about the review: if the reveiwer despises the Beatles, how can this be such a great cover album? The review stated that Lennon, McCartney and Co. can't write even decent music.
This does not compute. The only difference is the music is being executed in a different manner than originally, right?

He doesn't like the Beatles yet thinks it's a great cover album which logically means it's a bad cover album which destroys the Beatles' songs. No?

I don't know. Lemmy plays on it and Lemmy seems to be a huge fan of Paul McCartney's bass technique.
I haven't heard it, so I can't say how it turned out.
It has some good musicians pitching in, though.

No, they don't destroy the Beatles songs. They just add metal to it and for me it makes for a much more exciting experience. However, there are a few Beatles songs I actually like. I love Hey Jude, Revolution, and a couple others, and they're all covered on here. And yes, if you can get past Lemmy's gravelly voice on Back in the USSR, you'd love his twist on that song.

Holy crap. I just said how I felt about the original songs because I wanted to explain that the metal tinge to the compilation actually makes it enjoyable for me. Regardless of how much influence they have, they're just kind of a trendy thing and I never enjoyed them. God forbid I say what I think about a band on a website where I'm supposed to do just that, and 10 forumites jump on my back. Seriously, disagreeing is great, and it's always good to constructively criticize, but there is only 1 post I can read where it's actually something not insulting. I'd love to talk about the merits and the influence of The Beatles over Heavy Metal but it has to be a legitimate conversation and not just a flurry of insults.

Dude you called the most popular and respected rock band a novelty act, what did you expect? You're allowed to dislike the Beatles but phrasing it in such harsh and untrue terms is asking to be made fun of.

I just learned their name was a pun a couple months ago lol

I don't like the Beatles, in fact for the most part I'd say I dislike them save for a few select songs, however to say they weren't important or influential to modern music in general would just be silly.

I was certainly harsh. But I never said they weren't influential and important. I guess it's just who I am. I've always been very adamant about the things I don't like, so I come off as too brutal especially on bad albums that everyone says I score too low. I just always thought their music was boring and nonsensical. And at least in South Florida they're definitely a trend. All of my age group likes them because they all think the 60s were the coolest thing and that if they don't like the Beatles then they're not a fan of the era. At least this compilation covered the only couple of Beatles songs I enjoy. And to the person who commented on the first page saying if I don't like the Beatles then I have no taste in music and I've never smoked pot: that's a pretty surprising statement. I didn't know that if you smoke weed it's mandatory to like the Beatles. I also had no idea that not liking a band means I know nothing about music. That's ignorance personified.

I can't stand the Beatles but this review is really poor. It's disjointed and blabbers on about things completely irrelevant to the review.

It reads like something written by someone on speed.

Lemmy would indeed approve. :P

- Taking a shit on The Beatles
- Being surprised that there is retaliation

Anyways, The Beatles revolutionized music and progressed and put out more mind bending material in the time that many bands write 2 or 3 albums.

Insulting The Beatles for their music is like insulting Picasso for his paintings, you are still entitled to your opinion but the world has already made it's choice.

By the way, Revolver is one of the greatest rock records of all time.
