Isn't this the band that makes concept albums about Heaven and Hell, are they any good and what album should I start off with?

And the Hose of Atreus albums, which are my favourites.

Sadly I'm going to have to agree with this review. I'm not getting much out of this album, and I'm having trouble keeping interest in it after three spins.

Regardless of their current state, they are still one of the best in the genre with their back catalog.

It's a shame. I was just beginning to really like Invictus.

I actually liked it, so far i think its better than Visions Of Eden, but yeah this is nowhere near as good as Invictus.

Oh ya, no question that it's better than Visions, but overall I just find it to be boring. Defeis' vocals are decent if unagressive and overdramatic, and it's heavier than it's predecessor, but there's too little intensity. Though the opening track is definitely growing on me.

Really? I found VOE much better. It doesn't raise to the level of Atreus-Invictus-Marriage but at least it has more energy, some speedy cuts like Childslayer and Bonedust, some great ballads like Angel of Death or God Above God, strong choruses like in Immortal I Stand etc. If only the guitars wouldn't have been left in the back of the mix.

But this Baccharnalia album... there's really nothing here. No riffs, tame singing, mellow compositions, everything's gone wrong. A sea of blandness. I could only listen to it twice, maybe I'll try and force myself to give it a few more chances, after all VS is in my top 10 all time favourite bands. But right now I'm so disappointed with them I'm almost angry.

In Dream of Fire is the only (semi) stinker on the whole album. The rest ranges from a little above average to very good. Sure, it's not very aggressive but it works well as it is.
Not VS's best but definitively not their worst.
I'd rate it around 75/80 but I still need to give it a few more spins to be sure.

So what would you say their worst is?

Their self-tittled and Noble Savage.

What about the title track on Noble Savage?

It's a good song. The best of the album with Thy Kingdom Come.
Still, there are too many fillers and pop metal influences on Noble Savage for me not to consider it one of VS's worst.

Gotcha. I'm not disagreeing, I just think Noble Savage is one of the best VS songs.

I may have to give this one another chance. This is one of my all time favorite bands after all.

I think it's one of those album you have to be in the right frame of mind to fully appreciate. It certainly is mellower than what most VS followers were expecting, yet it works. Actually, it worked. The first two spins I gave the album were pretty favorable, the last one I stopped in the middle of the second song, I just wasn't in the mood for this kind of thing but I'm pretty sure that, righteously high like I was the other times, I'll work as a charm.
Gosh! Have VS just released an involuntarily stoner album?!

I think Visions kicks the crap out of this.

Visions:
God Above God = epic and awesome; Immortal I stand = awesome; The Hidden God = awesome; Childslayer = awesome

Black Light = 0 awesome, 0 good, 0 above average (by VS standards).
