You guys are reading that like it's my opinion. It is what it is, nothing more or less.

It isn't any more objective that anything else out there. I was curious. It's true. Everything basically sucks because there are more people that hate something than like it no matter what it is.

Do you really believe the things you post?

Blastbeats are fucking lame.

There aren't really any classic bands I don't understand even though there's lots I don't like. Maybe Dream Theater because this video is just too lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYtiDCXLAcQ

Only when they are used at the wrong moment or too often. Otherwise they definitely add something to a song.

Care to name said bands please?

Iron Maiden suck and their massively overrated, but I don't see many bands topping their influence in the music. Only Judas Priest is beter than Iron Maiden

I don't know, Hammerfall has been better, so has Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Motorhead.

I just don't feel a lot of emotion in much of Iron Maiden's music. I think they spoil their own mood sometimes.

Agreed. I for example like the use of blast beats in later Kataklysm or early Bolt Thrower but cannot stand blast beat infested stuff ala Hate Eternal or Vital Remains.

Some drummers seem to only be able to do blast beats and as such they're overused.

Lars puts on a clinic out there on how to use the blast beasts. It's a drum fill, not a drum loop you keep playing all fucking night.

Vital Remains is a great example. I've tried to listen to their albums many times but it just bores me to death.

Fail (as always).

They do suck, but I won't deny their influence on this music, that would be pretty stupid.

So are they bad musicians? Bad song writers? Bad live performers?

You can't just say one of the most hailed bands in metal suck without giving any reasons why, especially on a metal website. If you said The Black Eyed Peas suck, I wouldn't press the issue, but we're talking about Maiden here.

So, explain your position, or gtfo.

Regarding the obviously heralded status of Iron Maiden is something I could honestly care less for, they are legendary and influential, so what? My opinion stems from the fact that of the albums I've heard they've been abysmal save a few songs off of Piece of mind and Powerslave. Their musicianship is ok I suppose and the occasional solo reminds me that it is indeed a metal album, but to stretch a bit more listening to them is indeed a chore. As mentioned in two previous posts, given the tendency for the metalhead creature to regard them as a sacred cow, I relegate them to their influence and nothing more as their music doesn't impress me whatsoever.

I kept thinking you are entitled to your own opinion until I saw that. Iron Maiden suck = Opinion.

Iron Maiden are a bunch of very talented (and not ok) musicians = Fact.

And about the occassional solo reminding you that it is indeed a metal album, well, Maiden drips metal.

Infuckingdeed.
It doesn't get any more truly Metal than early Maiden, and the musicianship is obviously top-notch.

The stuff with Di Anno wasn't so bad in my opinion, but I was never quite able to stomach much else afterward.

Hey if you don't like it, you don't like it. Fair enough, you acknowledge their place in the annals of metal, which is good enough.

I prefer Di Anno era myself, though the post-Di Anno material throughout the 80s is still damn good, if at times less-than-inspired.

Usually I find myself with the minority, but in this case, I am with the majority or so I assume in that I prefer the Bruce era of Maiden. As a vocalist, I even prefer Blaze over Di'Anno. Paul had an amazing range, no doubt. It's just his style of singing that I didn't like. Oh and speaking about Blaze, it doesn't get more metal than him. According to wikipedia, "The pre-sale for Promise and Terror quickly became the biggest in Blaze Bayley's history, as it charted at number 3 on UK pre-orders before its release". He deserves every bit of success he gets. Need to get that album.
