Rather disappointed with the careful diplomatic reaction of western governments to this, not least our own. Reactions from all sorts of people is that democratic candidates for leader will gain more widespread support than Islamist ones. The passion and clear desire for democracy is very moving.

And who was saying that? I think the US has a closer affinity to Britain/Australia/Canada through common language/English nation beginnings etc; I don't see the same natural ally tendency in other European nations.

V basically said we should stick to our close allies and do nothing else unless we can mutually benefit from the alliance. I'm not a huge interventionist but I can't consider it moral after all America has done in the last 60 years to just close shop and say you people are on your own. Then again considering how we fuck over everyone we help maybe we would be better off to keep our dick in our pants and let them solve their own problems. Then the problem is the military dictatorships we've established who don't mind quashing resistance with force. I don't know maybe you don't consider the third world as having been royally fucked by the West.

No, I agree with you on the third world. The excuse of the Cold War allowed the propping up of several dictatorships...on both sides. A sad relic of great power rivalry.

Olbermann, partisan? I've seen enough clips of him ripping the hell out of democrats as well, mainly blue collar ones.

I actually find Schultz and Matthews to be the most partisan, at certain times Olbermann was critical of Obama, though nowhere near as vitriolic as he was towards Bush. Nowhere in my post was I suggesting he wasn't partisan, keeping in mind that both corporate stations and conversations about politics are less about "truth" and more about evangelism. Olbermann performed his role as a corporate shill for MSNBC, and with Comcast picking up MSNBC, Maddow and them maybe next.
