This week seemed to be a lot less metal than 99%. In fact it was a real out of the ordinary one.

Looking at this week's reviews, Metal is only 50% of albums reviewed:

Metal

CANNIBAL CORPSE - Bloodthirst
Death Metal

DEICIDE - To Hell With God
Death Metal

MOONSORROW - Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa
Epic Heathen Metal

NECRONOCLAST - Ashes
Black Metal

POWER QUEST - Blood Alliance
Melodic Power Metal

NON-METAL
EXTREME NOISE TERROR - A Holocaust In Your Head
Grindcore, Crust Punk
(This one is fair game though)

LONG DISTANCE CALLING - Long Distance Calling
Post Rock/Metal

PINK FLOYD - Ummagumma
Progressive Rock

RADIOHEAD - The King of Limbs
Alternative?

SOROR DOLOROSA - Blind Scenes
Gothic Rock

I was speaking of the site as a whole, but if you must be fucking tiresome, then let's put our OCD hats on: grindcore comes under the wider metallic umbrella, as does post-metal and goth-rock. Pink Floyd were a massive influence on a lot of metal, and so deserve an archive slot, quite apart from being a band that metalheads have a lot of respect for. So what's that, 80% metal and 10% of particular interest to metalheads? Radiohead, in addition, are a band that a lot of metalheads appreciate in the same vein as Porcupine Tree. So, 100% of the bands reviewed this week will have definite appeal to a large amount of metalheads. Just because Nattulv or whoever would rather read about genocidal flautists does not mean that the reviewers on this site suck, nor that toys have to go flying out of hitherto-silent prams because said infants can't bear the thought of a single solitary review slot being taken up by something rather than nothing.

I think any music that is sonically challenging should be fair game for this site. I don't really give a fuck that it's called "Metal Reviews", there's no reason why shit like drone, prog, post-metal, hardcore, noise, ambient, or whatever the hell you want to name shouldn't be reviewed. This is the kind of extreme music that metalheads are interested in...and if it's music that we might like, then why not review it? And while I'm at it, it's in the genres that I listed above that many bands are pushing the boundaries of extreme music, and to ignore them in the name of "METUHL" is just ridiculous.

With regards to Radiohead, they don't really fall into the realm of extreme or sonically challenging music, so I can respect arguments that they, specifically, don't belong here. Yet, they're also a band that many people are interested in hearing about, so I definitely understand why it got reviewed. What's wrong with the site recommending non-metal releases that metalheads, specifically, might be into? I just don't get it.

Fair enough points but let me go rant on this one. It in no way represents anything but local experience.

Pink Floyd - in my local scene only guys that listened to these dudes were the more art rock guys or the hippies. Generally they were spaced out people who ingested too many drugs.

The Metalheads (all 30-40 of them) generally only listened to metal exclusively except one guy who liked prog rock and Kate Bush  .

Radiohead - only person I've ever met that's even close to liking these guys is my wife who owns a best off and likes 3-4 songs out of it. I myself also like about the same number of songs from them.

Done now, will not say anything on this topic again.

I had no idea this review would get this much attention. I seriously thought that it would go by fairly unnoticed, like the latest Muse album. An equally unmetal band, but with a sound that appeals to metalheads. I guess I was WAY off.

Either way, you folks that are complaining so much... it really won't get you anywhere. Unless Zad or the higher ups specifically tell me "no more non metal EVER" I'm still gonna do it and you're still gonna hate it. Not to antagonize you, but because there is still a small percentage of people who want to read it. In the end all that you are doing is making us feel less appreciated. This thread doesn't make me want to supply you with metal reviews, it makes me think that the forum is no better than /b/ and I should disregard anything said here.

"This site should only have METAL reviews! That's why it's called METAL REVIEWS." Well... it doesn't.

"Then they should change and make it only METAL reviews!". Well.... it won't.

I really hope now that this Radiohead album IS a two parter. I cannot WAIT until it gets time to review part 2.

I wonder how many of the weekly reviews Dead1, Nattulv and Onionpants read with each issue. Are you that voracious that you routinely run out of Metal reviews to read and are stuck with being FORCED to read a review of Radiohead? Dry your fucking eyes, pal.

Someone link Onionpants my Paramore review. Hah.

The staff should dedicate a whole weeks worth of reviews to albums both past and present that are absolutely of no kin to metal.

Might as well say my two (or more) cents.

WTF? Agree to disagree, but lets at least pretend to have something better in our lives to do than spam ten pages of mindless raging about something this trivial. The man enjoys Radiohead, and happens to be willing to take time out of his day to write a review about it. More power to him, and also to you for disagreeing WITH THE REVIEW's content. But raging about non-metal this, and the site is named that, is just tedious and unfounded.

Look at the damn archives in this website. Hundreds, if not thousands of reviews, done by volunteers taking time out of their own lives to appreciate (or warn about) someone's work. And a good 95% if that is true by the book metal. Now if someone wants to stretch out of that mold a bit and review some rock, or prog, or even alternative rock, then who are we to deny that person? I listen to a hell of alot of music, not all metal, and enjoy learning about new bands regardless of what label they fall under. Do you honestly think Radiohead, or Floyd, or any number of rock/alternative bands have not had some influence on the metal that is created today? You think every band continuously spins classic Maiden/Priest/etc... like its the fucking musical fountain of youth? You cannot simply continue to rehash the same shit drawing from the same source. That is called inbreeding, and it leads to retards.

Bottom line, disagree if you want, but stop slamming people for writing what they choose to write. Its quite simple, dont read it.

If you don't like the forums, don't read them. Simple enough.

No real reviews of any eastern European BM bands because of fear of being NSBM or not, and I see stupid shit like this, captain beefheart's whatever the fuck, not to mention a lot of classic rock bands. The users on metal-archives and a lot of other sites do a much better job. The owner of the site trying to sell anime shirts/posters and radiohead reviews.... hahahaha.

The point is, a lot of us want to read metal reviews. Where is the review for the latest Agalloch album? Come one guys...

Then go over there and bitch about things. If you don't like it here no one is holding a gun to your head and telling you to stay and read non metal reviews.

Bottom line you don't like what's going on here start your own fucking metal review site

Anything past The Bends has no appeal to me whatsoever. Gah, get me out of this depressing hell called Radiohead.

I'd rather read Goat rant on about what metalheads are supposedly listening to than this. Personally, I can't think of a single metalhead I know who wouldn't turn this off after about 25 seconds.
