I always have trouble with these "underrated albums" threads because I never really know when something is actually underrated or if I just enjoy it so much that I feel the rest of the world should love it as much as I do.

That said, I dunno...can INRI really be considered underrated? So many bands were influenced by it and Sarcofago is still a favourite in the extreme metal community. I remember three or so years ago when there was a rumour going around that Wagner was reuniting Sarcofago and they would be playing a bunch of tour dates including Wacken, but ended up it was a hoax. People went apeshit. So not sure about Sarcofago. Either way, they were still an awesome band.

I think out of the five you mentioned the only one I really agree with being completely underrated is Kvist. Great band but little known, whereas there's still a decent following for Master's Hammer and Sabbat.

Yo Steve, thanks.

Master's Hammer and Sabbat (J) have always been kind of hit and miss for me, but Kvist is aces.
These kind of threads always leave someone out, though. There are so many underrated bands out there.

Damn, these two should have been on my list. I totally agree, I love Gates to Purgatory especially. Such a great album. Despite that I really love Under Jolly Roger and everything up to Black Hand Inn, I still find myself wishing they would have come out with a few more albums like Gates and Branded and Exiled.

Forgot about this album. Definitely a good one if I remember right, should give it a spin.

Pre-Black Shining Leather is pretty underrated, I agree. They were still playing some solid black metal back then that they aren't recognised for as much as when they fell into their own trademark sound with BSL. I still prefer BSL, Strange Old Brew and Defending the Throne, though. But then I think Carpathian Forest are underrated in general.

Running Wild's first two are among my all time favorites.
Yeah, I forgot about Necromantia's Crossing the Fiery Path; not much beats metal done in the old way.

INRI should really be a metalreviews classic. IMO it's the most glaring omission along with Venom's Black Metal.

Indeed, even a new subgenre (the best of all, imho) was created, inspired by this work and Bathory's. Classic +3

I toally agree.

Clearly for example Limp Bizkit is much maligned on these here forums, so they're underrated as I love them.

I assume it's the same for Korn, Spineshank and the mighty Coal Chamber.

INRI and Black Metal haven't been reviewed as classics here yet? :omfg:

Zebulon Pike - The Deafening Twilight
East of the Wall - Farmer's Almanac

I feel like these two albums have big "Here lies the future of metal" signs on them that not many other people seem to notice. The two most innovative metal albums from the last decade (two of the best too!)

Agreed about Sarcofago being underrated, but perhaps even more underrated were Vulcano, there were many gems coming out from Cogumelo records in the 80's (Chakal, Holocausto, Sexthrash, etc) and people only seem to remember Sepultura.

Another band i think its pretty underrated is KAT, 666 should be a classic IMO.

Also:

Onslaught
Bulldozer
Salughter
Death SS
Deceased
Pagan Altar
Pentagram

Guys, I would have done Venom - BM as a classic by now, except for the bluntly honest fact that I don't like it, and wouldn't give it the kudos it deserves for its place in metal history. It deserves to be a MetalReviews classic, without a doubt, but it also deserves to have someone who enjoys it write about it.

It's forgivable if he was young and didn't know better.

I still listen to Dope, which is slightly more musical. At least they write better songs. It might be contrived pop metal horseshit masquerading as machismo and attitude, but it has a sense of charm.

Fuck tha police yo. They're fucking DRUG DEALERS. It's not like Edsel Dope is dorky jew from Chicago that borrowed a little heavily from his ex-roommate's band Marilyn Manson and mixed it with Motley Crue. Nothing like that at all. HARDCORE shit, like doing the weekend in jail for parking tickets.
