It seems like another great album and if it expanded on what was going on with Communion, and if the songwriting is a bit more diverse than some of the chugging (which isn't bad) on Communion it will be a great album. I need to go out and buy it now

+1. Communion blew me away and I have high hopes for this.

I want to listen to this ASAP.

Fuck Therion. Best symphonic band in metal is SF hands down.

That's good. The gothic metal bit had me a bit worried.

I'm a big fan but I really like say, Sumaerian Demons ( Or however it's spelled ) as far as their sound goes. Very interesting band, though. At least they're generally trying something new.

You go too far there. Agreed if you compare the last albums of each though.

Kathy, if you don't like Vovin or Deggial I feel sorry for you. Therion and Septicflesh play a very different kind of symphonic metal, SF tends to a more blackened death sound. I would compare SF with Hollenthon or maybe Epica, being SF the best of course, and that we'll agree, SF rlz!

Gothic Metal can't have growls or blastbeats?

Show working pls.

Seriously, my thinking was that Septicflesh fall into the Dark Metal genre, which is basically gothic metal for people too cool to admit liking it. I think Septicflesh's atmosphere can be called gothic, and would rather see them in a category with Paradise Lost etc than Deicide. No?

True. At least none I can think of.

Moonspell? I suppose it is more likely amongst the blacker bands like Cradle Of Filth than the likes of Sirenia, but there's more than one sort of Gothic Metal. Am sure even Epica have had blasty bits at some point or other, though.

Agreed with Kath, Therion aren't 1/10th as majestic as Septic flesh

As Alexander noted, there is Vovin and Deggial. I haven't heard anything by Septic Flesh that comes close to the 'majesty' of Deggial.

Septic Flesh kept more aggression in their sound than Therion did, and thus I am not sure how much of a direct comparison the two can make.

Yup, and for a fraction of the budget Therion uses. It's quite impressive what they can achieve.

Still, I never liked Communion as much as I liked the one before that, but that was way back when I was more into death metal than I am now.

Maybe SF has the lyrics for a goth band, but really its too heavy to be considered one. Thing with moonspell is, its Gothic metal with death metal influences, doesn't mean gothic metal bands can have growling. moonspell is rather unique band and i just listened to the new album and its not even close to gothic metal. all it sounds like is Epic Symphonic death metal to me and nothing else.
