You know, those albums everybody raves about. There must be some of them you never really managed to get into...

For example, though it's a good album, I never understood what the fuss was all about with Operation: Mindcrime. Same goes with Pink Floyd's The Wall (overlong and too ambitious for its own good) or Slayer's Reign in Blood (too fast!).

What about you?

Slayer - South of Heaven first and foremost. I only like Slayer up until Reign in Blood which is awesome, and not too fast :P

Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth. They're playing my kind of power metal, but I just can't get into it.

Testament - Every damn classic they've recorded. I just think that band is terribly boring.

Anthrax - Among the Living. Another band I just can't seem to enjoy for what they are even if I absolutely love thrash metal.

Tbh, I've never been able to get into any Megadeth or Anthrax albums. I guess when there are so many other awesome thrash bands from the same era, those bands just don't stand out to me as far as what I look for in thrash.

It took me a looooooooooooooong time to get into Megadeth. Try Rust in Peace again.

Wow, I guess almost all of them.

The only classic bands from the 80's and before I care about anymore are: Dio, Rainbow, Alcatrazz, Yngwie, Toto, Sanctuary, Rush, Savatage, Queensryche, Kiss, Boston, Maiden, Kansas's Leftoverture, Gamma Ray, Metallica, Europe, and Axel Rudi Pell.

Basically everything else was a massive disappointment. I either did not care enough to listen it more than once, or the enthusiasm didn't last long. Mercyful Fate was good for a little while, for example.

There are quite a few bands that I keep whatever songs I already developed a liking for and delete the rest like Blue Oyster Cult, Skid Row, Scorpions, Ozzy, Van Halen, Zebra and Led Zeppelin. But I can't sit through a whole album. As far as I'm concerned these bands have never released a classic album. Sorry.

Night of the Stormlord the album is a massive steaming pile of shit, with Travel of Stygian and Angels Holocaust being the only redeeming factors. Boring half thrash riffs and a lame mid-paced tempo butcher it, and it's easily overshadowed by Burnt offerings.

Most of older Jag Panzer is pretty dull as well, I never liked Conklins vocals and the riffing just paled in comparison to other USPM acts.

Rust in Peace, Mustaine's vocals suck and the music is pretty aimless with the exception of the first two songs.

As for the more extreme genres:

I never much liked Satyricon's older material, it never held my attention save the song "Walk the Path of Sorrow". It's not really the band's fault, but they're just massively done out by other bands.

The list can go on..Blackwater Park, Tales from a thousand lakes, Dead as dreams they all suck. Yadda, Yadda

I don't understand how anyone can dislike Melissa, King Diamond's solo material blows, but Mercyful Fate's Melissa is untouchable.

You know, I think an argument can be made that there is only so much of a certain sounding music you desire to have and after that point you don't see why anything more is necessary. Some classic albums were probably a revelation at the time for a lot of people who experienced it then and the other people that defend it, but how can react to something that you expect to be a favorite for a while that you've ultimately heard before or can not possibly fathom why anyone would consider it great.

Everything is relative though. We can say that, yes, this is a classic album that I would listen to all the time, given that the 500 other albums I'm busy with aren't available.

Metallica's Master of Puppets is one of the greatest metal albums in the sense that a) it is available everywhere and everyone know it b) it doesn't require extensive knowledge of it's genre c) people's perceptions are swayed by popularity and familiarity.

I can totally understand someone hating Power Windows. They didn't grow up on 80's pop music and Hard Rock like I did, so why would they consider sounding sounding like a British New Wave band a good thing?

I can't stand Blind Guardian's ANATO. The 14-minute long track excepted. And I never really "got" Slayer's Reign in Blood. I even fell asleep listening to this, a while ago. Not even kidding.

The hatred for Reign in blood is pretty surprising, while it's obviously overshadowed by more intense thrash, it's still a classic IMO. Perhaps there is a certain level of redundancy in stating that, but songs like Altar of sacrifice and Raining blood are better than anything ever devised by hacks like Tankard or Megadeth.

Reign In Blood is very good but there are a couple of skippable tracks.

And this just proves you have no legitimate understanding of black metal whatsoever.

Darkthrone is a very stand-out black metal band so I can understand not being into them. They don't sound like anyone else. I enjoy them but I guess I can understand someone else not.

I never got into Powerslave. I have no idea why. It's not that I dislike it (come on, it's Iron Maiden!), it just never really clicked.

Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness comes to mind. Aside from a track or two it just bores me to death.
