Would have to disagree with you gentleman, I find most of the tracks on the album memorable and I've been coming back to it. There's a few misses but there's plenty of tracks/choruses sticking in my head. The title track, Deliver Us, Fear is the Weakness, Ropes, and Darker Times for example.

I'm an Anders nut too and I like a lot of his lyrics on this album and a lot of his lyrics in general post-Clayman. ( Not saying I don't like the earlier lyrics, but they don't make a lot of sense. )

The Attic is useless, and so is the Jester's Door and Liberation. I'll probably trim those out of my MP3 collection and forget they exist on the album. I bet it becomes a better album to listen to with that out the window. Much like Come Clarity is a better album backwards and without the title track and Your Bedtime Story Is Scaring Everyone.

Well as I've said before I have no problem with anyone disagreeing with my opinion of an album, music (and art in general) and its "goodness" is largely a matter of opinion and personal perspective after all.

I really wanted this album to be a continuation of the direction they were going on ASOP, but for me it just isn't there. I am actually going to see these guys in about a month, so maybe more of these songs will connect with me when I see them played live. For now I'm going to let it rest though, maybe pick it back up in a couple weeks and see what I think.

Right on. Have you seen them live before? They're really awesome and have great energy. They're also good about playing a bit of everything, especially if they have a longer set, so they won't burn you out on the new album.

Hopefully if it's at the festival they're doing the sound is good... Fortunately they're doing a headline show offshot to my city and I'm going to see them on that. It'll be my 7th time seeing them.

And yeah opinions are opinions I really never aim to get into serious business. I just generally have a lot to say and like to reply. I appreciate that you're not a total hater on them and at least explain why.

Never seen them live in the almost 10 years I've been a fan, missed my first opportunity in 2005 unfortunately. I would definitely like to see them play a mix of everything, though I realize after 10 pretty diverse albums it's tough to please everyone.

Ive seen them live a couple of times, and really enjoyed them both times, but the biggest impression I got was the first time. It was supporting STYE, and Ander's was talking up a storm about how they had one last song to play, and I know I was screaming loud enough to be heard "Jotun, play fucking Jotun". Nope, My Sweet Shadow was the closer. Ive hated that song ever since.

I've listened to this for the first time today and I have to say that I mostly agree with The Evil Dead here, quite to my surprise actually. I expected this to blow, which it didn't. Anders vocals aren't the best and probably the weak link on the album, that is true. But if they had cut out those last two songs this would've been a very good album in my opinion. It's only my first listen obviously but I see myself liking this more than A Sense of Purpose.

I think if you booted out Anders and replaced him with a power metal or even pop style singer, the band would actually work a lot better.

Anders clean voice is on par with Jonathan Davis out of Korn - i.e. fucking atrocious.

See my sig.

That being said I saw them play Jotun here in Omaha. Some guy won a contest on their site where you earned a chance to play a song on guitar with In Flames on tour, and he picked Jotun and ripped it.

I saw In Flames at their first show in America. They played Milwaukee Metalfest in 1999. I met all of them and they signed and dated my shirt. They were so happy to be in America. They said they were happy people showed up to the show. They were all smiles and very gracious. Wow, I 've been listening to In Flames for like 14 years. In Honor of that experience, I put a pic of the shirt they signed as my avatar thing.

They were at the Sokal with Job for a Cowboy on an offshoot from what I believe was Gigantour. It was May 8th 2008. It was just them and Job, and I think someone local, so they played like a 2 hour set. It was pretty fucking awesome.

They're also going to be back July 18th at the Sokal. I have my ticket.
