I recently found myself looking for one track in particular. Then another, from another album. And so on. This is a habit I have: past the first few spins, I seldom listen to the whole album anymore. I just pick and choose tracks I like. And found out there are quite a few albums I listen to for just one song.

Question: does it happen to you? If so, which albums, for which song? Is it because you think the remaining of the albums isn't as good, or for another reason?

My quick list (there are many others I'm sure):

Annihilator - s/t : Ambush
Annihilator - King of the Kill : King of the Kill
Burzum - Fallen : Jeg Faller
Enforcer - Diamonds : Nightmares
Peste Noire - La sanie des siècles : Le Mort Joyeux
Mastodon - Blood Mountain : Colony of Birchmen
Pathfinder - Beyond the space, Beyond the time : The lord of wolves
Power Quest - Blood Alliance : Battle Stations (the opening instrumental, I can't stand the rest)
Masterplan - MK II : Masterplan
Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising : War of the Gods
Cryonic Temple - In Thy Power : Travelers in Time
Cryonic Temple - Immortal : Fear of the Rage
Judas Priest - Ram it Down : Ram it Down
Elvenking - Wyrd : Jigsaw Puzzle
In Flames : A Sense of Purpose : I'm the Highway
Metallica - St Anger : No, just kidding.
Within Temptation - The Unforgiving : In the middle of the night
Adagio - Dominate : R'lyeh the Dead
Airbourne - Running Wild : Girls in Black
Manilla Road - Crystal Logic : Necropolis
Biomechanical - Eight Moons : The Awakening
Mercenary - 11 Dreams : Firesoul
Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll : Triple Corpse Hammerblow

...and there are so many others, it's too late and I can't think anymore.

Pretty much every Mastodon album has maybe one song I like.

Mastodon and Kylesa's brand of Georgia sludge isn't very appealing to me.

Ooh, interesting topic. I'm sure that there are plenty of albums that I only listen to for one track, but I subconsciously force myself to listen to the whole album for fear of missing the album experience or in case I've not "got" it yet.

Souls at Zero's ST comes to mind. There's a song (Welcome to the 90s) which stands above all others. It's not a good album by those ex-Wrathchild America by no means but this one song kicks ass.

Also, Wintersun's album is great but there also is one song that does it more than all of the others combined: Death and the Healing. When I overplayed the album, I came to a point where that song only did something for me and, last time I spinned it (about a year and a half ago) it was still where I was.

That's all for now but I'm sure there's a lot more.

EDIT:
I'll add St Anger to that list for Frantic (preferably in the DVD version).

Some more (quickly scanning iTunes):

Exciter - Violence & Force : Violence & Force
Eternal Tears of Sorrow - A Virgin and a Whore : Sick, Dirty and Mean
Epica - Design your Universe : Samadhi
Falconer - Among Beggars and Thieves : Mountain Men
Gamma Ray - Power Plant : Wings of Destiny
Grave Digger - The Grave Digger : The Grave Digger
Halford - Crucible : Handing Out Bullets
Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos : Arrows of Agony
Heed - The Call : Enemy
Hibria - Blind Ride : Shoot Me Down
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon : Ten Thousand Strong
Iced Earth - The Crucible of Man: Divide and Devour
Iron Maiden - No Prayer for the Dying : Run Silent Run Deep
Jorn - Worldchanger : Sunset Station
Kamelot - The Fourth Legacy : The Fourth Legacy
Kamelot - Ghost Opera : Ghost Opera
Kiss - Creatures of the Night : Creatures of the Night
Kreator - Violent Revolution : Violent Revolution
Misanthrope - Visionnaire : Hands of the puppeteer
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black : Beyond Within
Nightrage - A New Disease is Born : Death-like Silence
Norther - Mirror of Madness : Midnight Walker

etc.
This is uncanny. I didn't realize there were that much. I'm calling them "Iceberg albums" : ten tracks (approx.), but only one listenable.

Heed - The Call : Enemy

Totally agree wit this one, just a brilliant song, although the rest of the album also rocks!

Devourment (Butcher the Weak) Babykiller
Gorgoroth-(Antichrist)-Possessed by Satan
Exodus-(Impact is imminent)-title track
Origin-(Antithesis)-Finite
Deicide-(s/t)-Blaspherereion
Hammerfall-(Legacy of Kings)-Legacy of Kings
Skullview-(Kings of the Universe)-Kings of the Universe
Defeated Sanity-(Chapters of Repugnance)-Consumed by repugnance
Midnattsol-(Where twilight dwells)-Lament
Satyricon-(Volcano)-Repined bastard Nation
Profanatica(Disgusting blasphemies against god)-Black cum

So many more these are the only ones I can think of..

Blade: Err... I... don't see it, sorry  Enemy, however, is a good song to sing in the shower. Straightforward melody, goofy lyrics... nice. :D

I'm glad I'm not alone though. I was starting to think I don't spend enough time listening to the albums as a whole. But no, I'm alright. They simply suck balls. Oooh, just thought of the masterpiece of Iceberg albums : Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera (And Then There was Silence, aka And Then There was a Good Track).

PS: And lol at the one track albums :)

Funny, those are two DM albums I usually listen to all the way through.

This is even worst. :lame:
An undeniable classic with just two songs that are not of the same quality as the rest, namely Invaders and Gangland.

I know this is a highly praised album. I just don't like Gamma Ray that much: there always are a couple of tracks I like in each of their albums, except for Power Plant, where there's only one. But what a track! The guitar wankery is stellar.

And Stefan: I agree, but at least he likes Hallowed be Thy Name.

C'mon Bruce!

22 Acacia Avenue! :dio:
The Number of the Beast! :dio:
Children of the Damned! :dio:
The Prisoner! :dio:

I'll admit Run to the Hills can be a little tiring on the long run (still a great song).

I said I AGREE  But at least he likes the quasi-institutional, out-of-this-world, worship-worthy Hallowed be thy Name. The rest of the album is only "great".
