My first reactions to this album were very bad... it sounded just like one of Les's solo albums without any of that shtick that made Primus stick out. But after time it has been growing on me.

In no way would I call this better than Tales From the Punch Bowl... if anything this would be just above Antipop. It doesn't have a song as awesome as Laquer Head or Dirty Drowning Man, but its pretty solid front to back which I can't say about Antipop. Even Animals Should Not Act Like People is more in the direction I wish the band had gone in, but alas a good album is a good album.

Also, is it me or does Jilly's on Smack sound A LOT like Mary the Ice Cube?

Meh I don't understand why this band gets the attention they get. Sub par funk metal IMHO.

I gotta say, this is getting better every time I hear it. Not classic level, but it reminds me a lot of The Brown album and the vibe that album had.

More people should listen to The Brown Album.

Getting back in a Primussy mood lately, this has been growing. Crash is right re Brown Album comparison, has a similar feel...

Not nearly an 89 for me, although it's not terrible. I'd probably rate it something like a 75-80. For some reason, "Eyes of the Squirrel" has an addictive quality.

They're a fun band but I think I have enough of them with the Brown Album and Seas of Cheese.
Also, I think the few things Les Claypool did outside Primus were better than what the band proposes us.
That said, if the mood for silly fusion rock takes me and I stumble upon this album, I might give it a spin.

It's great album. I fell like in late 80's.

I've been a huge Primus fan for about a decade--my first four concerst were all Les Claypool--so i was thrilled to discover this was worthy.
Though I have been rethinking the "better than Tales From the Punchbowl" comment. I meant it was better than he bulk of that album, but it's got nothing nearly as good as Over the Electric Grapevine or Southbound Pachyderm or a few other highlights, so it's probably better said to be on the Brown Album's tier.
