While I prefer what they did on Morningrise to basically every album after that, I'm okay with their direction even though it's much lighter than the progressive rock I'd rather listen to.

But as said above, they're not King Crimson so I shouldn't be complaining about it.

I'd give it a 79 or so rather than above a 90.

Ghost reveries was the edge for me and now its truly gone too experimental. Never liked Per Wibergs synths in the background exept in damnation. I want the good old deaht metal band back!

Then listen to Death Metal and not Opeth. It's as simple as that.

In an album or two they'll do a 'back to the roots' sort of thing and go all Death Metally again. Sincerely doubt this is it for them, now.

95!!!!!! Are you serious, this is one of the worst albums I have ever heard.....its pathetic, a disgrace, my ears bled when I heard this crap.

Its 20/100 at best and thats being generous. Followed Opeth and "was" a massive fan from the start of their career, I even loved Damnation, this is such a disappointment.

Pathetic, bring Iced Earth new Killer album in 2 weeks and if that does not get album of the year then metalreviews is a rigged bunch....

Cheerio

That ain't happening unless Lopez and Lindgren come back. Opeth has always been Arkfeldt as a front man, but you all seem to forget the important influence these two had in the band's sound.

This album really does require several listens. There are some good moments that still give us a little taste of the last few albums. The exclusion of their signature death vocals surely pushes the band into a territory that they now seem more comfortable with. I do agree with many here that the score is somewhat high and a bit bias. this album is surely one of the most controversial to come out this year, creating some interesting arguments!

The new Blowpeth did suck that much is true, but if you think the new Iced Earth with Capt.Cut my wrists is going to be much better, you are pretty damn retarded.

Indeed. Once they notice that the money flow starts to lessen, I'm sure they will come back and be all "we had to explore our roots so that we can play BETTAR DETH METUHL".

Oh, and it's a complete dick move to only play songs without growls live. Feel sorry for the people who never saw them before and had the misfortune of seeing them on this tour.

It'll be interesting. Hoping to see them when they come through Manchester in early November with Pain Of Salvation, will doubtless write up the experience of growlless live Opeth so others can share the pain.

It can't be true, I love to see them live, I already have my tickets for the next venue, but if they don't play some fucking death metal I'm gonna be sooooooooo pissed! :dio: :dio: :dio:

I hope you were just making up stuff :D They will surely play Demon of The Fall

Not quite... If you´ve listened to the 7 albums before Watershed then you would know that Opeth is a death metal band , a proggy one but a death metal band. Try them out!

The important part isn't the 'death metal' nor the 'proggy', but the 'band'. A band that can be both, neither, or whatever they like.

PROFOUND.

Yes, and fuck genres. What kind of band is Ulver? BM? Avant-garde, experimental? And Burzum? BM? Other? And Metallica? Thrash? Bluesy Metal? Crap? Who cares about genres? This urge to classify and label everything is beyond me. Just enjoy the music (or just don't), ffs. Artists have the right to produce whatever they want, regardless of genres.

And to think that I don't even like Opeth...

I don't think it's a dick move. Bands can play whatever the hell they want live. It's their material, their show.
