Their material, their show, but 99.9% for those who will be at the show will be there not because of Heritage, but because of what they played till now.
They can do whatever the want, but it's fucking cruel...

Man, I wouldn't go to an Opeth show if they didn't play anything with growls in it. That basically guarantees that you won't hear some of their best tracks. No Deliverance, no Blackwater Park, no Ghost of Perdition, no Bleak... Man. That does blow.

I`m very much looking forward to see Opeth live later this year. I like every Opeth album including Heritage. Growl not growl. I don`t care. They play great music, and thats the only thing I care about. The worst case scenario is a bored Åkerfeldt trying to make an album that would please everone. I think he stays true to his vision and makes the albums he feels would make Opeth grow. May he do this for the years to come.

You get to here his shitty monotonous clean vocals though, I mean how would you pass up the chance to hear him say: "GOD IS DEAD"!

Uh-huh, and you said you are an Opeth fan from the beginning? Then why not mention "When", "Forest of October", or "The Night and the Silent Water"?

Kinda agree. I think bands who have a reputation like Opeth's have an obligation not to do something totally unexpected, like a two hour dub jam, but I'd still say a set of growless Opeth is still a set of Opeth.

A growlless set of Opeth is a set of Opeth I don't think I'd want too see is the thing. Sure, they can do it if they want, but if I know they're gonna do it, I have the choice to see it or not.

Of course. Doing something ridiculous wouldn't be right, but Opeth have many mellow songs without growls, and now they have an entire album without growls, so it's totally acceptable.

Wow, I'm seeing Opeth next week... no growls? I'm feeling a little, angry to be honest.

And to think, earlier you and Stefan were claiming in this thread that Damnation was part of the whole double album that included Deliverance, in which case this would be the *first* entire album without growls.

So either that is the case, or Deliverance was a separate entity, and therefore an example of Opeth bucking the supposed natural progression towards lightening their sound by following up Still Life and Blackwater Park with Deliverance.

Isn't splitting hairs fun? :P

[quote="Goat"]The important part isn't the 'death metal' nor the 'proggy', but the 'band'. A band that can be both, neither, or whatever they like.

True and I can never stop respect them for what they´ve done so f
But to pleas my taste they should kick out mr Wilson go into the forest and start jamming in the sunset

The hell they don't! or at least they warn! They can write, produce and make any album they fucking like, but when I heard St Anger (which flew through the window), I went to see Metallica live and got drunk hearing them playing dyers eve! Leper Messiah! and not caring at all about the crap they just released. So when Opeth makes an experimental concert as with Damnation, It's ok! But to transform a regular gig, full of metalheads in the room ( I hope), it is a dick move to make some sort of "my throat aches and I won't growl" concert. the energy in the room won't be the same, that's why. And although they have a new audience (Progg enthusiasts mainly), there will be as many root-fans as for the las venue, when Face of Melinda was a perfect "catch your breath and think about what you just did" song after Ghost Of Perdition and before Blackwater Park.

An album is an album, a gig is a FUCKING gig :dio:

You make no sense. A band can do whatever they want on an album or at a gig. Just like you can choose to buy that album or attend that gig. Crazy how that works, huh?

The problem is the fans, because they paid for and followed the band a long time, been faithful to it etc., think it kind of belongs to them... Which is silly actually but fans are kind of silly, aren't they?
