I've read that Sen article. It's cute.

Cute?
Really intuitive but really intelligent. Basicallly, I use cute and adorable to describe anything and everything.

I have this problem too. Forget there's slightly negative/shallow/etc implications to calling something cute or fun. (That Beethoven discussion a while ago etc)

I'm worse than a woman when it comes to finances as I'm flat broke.

In (poor) countries, were microcredit is implemented, credits are mostly allowed to women and not men, because men tend to waste the money on alcohol, whores, etc., whereas women tend to invest it in productive capacities (very small businesses, etc.) It's not me who says it, it's Amartya Sen, 1998 Nobel Prize.

So it's not at all an inherently "women exclusive" thing, I really think as I said in a previous post that it's a psychology issue. Buying as compulsive behaviour, if you like. And perhaps, *perhaps*, women are a bit more prone to be victims of this kind of things.

Besides, I really think that's a Western countries issue, where having private debts is (unfortunately) easy as pie.

That's very true.

I was merely ranting at my wife's propensity to spend.

I suspect it's a cultural thing - Western society has created this image of women spending. It's engrained into them from a young age.

Most shops in city centres or airports cater for women (clothes, perfumes, shoes, accessories).

A lot of women identify by their accessories and their clothes (some men do to).

Everyone identifies by what they buy. I just wrote a paper on Baudrillard and Bauman's theories of consumer culture defining modern identity. Everything you consume has a baggage of cultural symbolism attached to it, by which you either reveal the location of your habitus as an adherent to social class, or you use them as tools to mould your own identity. But no one is spared.

It's fun going into stores with that in mind. Trying to guess what kind of person they're trying to appeal to and how they're doing it. Way more fun than actually buying things. Each store is like someone screaming "LIKE ME" to a certain group of people and "FUCK OFF" to everyone else.

That's nothing. I had a girl toss my penny in those wishing wells and she told me to wish for something.

Suffice it to say I didn't get laid that night what a fucking jip and I lost my penny to boot
