Let's leave it at that, guys. Addy, I think you would be better off playing an instrument.

What a healthy way to put it. Yes, I think you have talent else where, Addy. Carry on with your guitar.

You just made my day Azzy, that really made me laugh.

I hope Addy hasn't killed himself over our merciless reviews of his epic singing skills...

are we taking requests for songs? i would be weary of these going viral...

anyways, recording voice is the best way to hear how one sounds in an unbiased manner. It can be a great training tool. as far as what i've heard, first off work on matching pitch to a point where the harmonic resonance created by matching the original is completely gone. most of the songs had the pitch slightly off, maybe it was from trying to emulate the original singers. second off, add emphasis to the consonants in the lyrics. It will help the voice pop and resonate. And finally, I think the biggest thing to work on assuming there is 8 octaves, learn to control the voice to a point where the vibrato can be matched. Good luck in learning,

Due to a massive production error, I've deleted the files.

Turns out I was monitoring myself and recording with a dither that was cutting 2/3 of my voice off, after a couple months trying to work around it to no avail, I guess the singing got pretty bad because when I fixed this thing everything was sounding right and most of bullshit I was doing to thicken the tone at great cost to pitch were not necessary since I wasn't singing at 120db to struggle to hear the highs that were almost non-existent in the mix. I was assuming my voice was rolling off at a still much higher than normal 15Khz. Nope, I was just cutting off everything I needed to hear to be able to sing. I turned down a producer I met when she demanded some samples wanting to get something done apparently. "Sorry, nothing I wanna stand behind right now" so that should tell you what I think.

Maybe one day I'll be able to record my voice correctly, then maybe someone will like it other than the neihbors. These people tell me they hang out and listen to it, which is odd considering how bad anyone would sound running through songs and doing 5 takes of the same verse.

I post this stuff here because I know you guys are gonna bust balls no matter what. If one person has something even moderately positive (meaning not overwhelmingly negative) I know they are being nice. That's what I want. It's like I know something is wrong, but can't quite think of anything and when other people say "Yeah there is something wrong here" you take care of the problem rather than waffling on it's existence.

This is what I mean, that was impossible because I was missing half the overtones. I sing backwards. I get the overtone resonance ready then sing and judge pitch and vocal tone by much finer frequencies. I was working with square waves for a voice and those never sound good.

I actually was having a very difficult time matching the original singers because of the vocal contortion necessary to avoid any overtones above what I could reasonably hear. When they are absent it sounds very distorted and off-key.

Six hours a day is my limit.

Got drunk Yesterday and threw a microphone as hard as I could on the tile floor after not liking a vocal take. I seem to recall Fabio Lione doing that exact thing when he auditioned for Labyrinth (or maybe it was another band, but I remember Olaf telling the story in an interview. That story made me laugh "This is fucking bullshit" SMASH

Yes. It will take a lot of practice until I am ready to record again. I was compensating massively for the dithering fuckup (I know better, so why the fuck did I set that dither in the first place...Stupid, stupid stupid.

I learned my lesson, no I can not smoke pot and chain smoke cigarettes while attempting every insanely difficult song I can find and be lazy about not recording enough takes and ignoring "small" mistakes. Also...way too many fucking songs. I need to pick ten that I am very good at do them three times in a row every day for a month then It will be good to record. Maybe do some Robin Trower or something like that that I have always gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback about. Picking the most difficult DT song in existence.

I will leave you with this story I read from Al Franken's book.

"You have two baseball players and one runs with perfect form and another runs with bad form, but they have the same time getting to first base...who do you pick. The guy with bad form. You can teach him good form and he will be superior in every way. I seem to be under the impression that range and power are the goal when singing and I am unmatched. I can learn good form and sing on key far more often when I get all the fucking range into a seamless voice.

In other news, I bought a speaker that I can hook up to my PA that I can actually use, so I can actually hear myself, you know, not 1/5th of a second later than I sing.

Being poor sucks. You have shitty equipment and start working around it and everything sucks that you do because of it. Ohh well. This was like giving Geddy lee an out of tune $50 out of tune bass with fucking awful action and expecting a miracle. Doesn't work that way in reality.
