ewww, that's like non-alcoholic beer. I remember me and my roommate bought a 24 pack cheap and we were so pissed off neither of us got drunk. We were almost fighting over the last four of them because we thought if we chugged one more it would work. I was a lightweight back then putting down about 9 icehouses a night and 12 miller HL did not even get me a good buzz.

You guys *wish* you could model clothes for Fridge. :P

Do drink expensive brandy on special occasions too, if that helps?

Do you listen to the songs "Black Out In The Red Room" and "Wasted In America" by Love/Hate when you drink and smoke?

 Yeah, because the only beers in America are Bud, Coors and MGD...

I'll take a Fat Tire or Full Sail over Fosters any day of the fucking week.

Fridge: I haven't had a Brooklyn, but it's a pretty acclaimed brew.
Have to check it out. Lately I have been into Gordon Biersch Marzen.

Pike Pale Ale is another beer that is quite nice, but it's hard to find.

...me too!

Fosters is the worst beer in Australia. Foster's redefines the word "piss". Still, most American beers I've tried have been piss.

I tried some of the Sierra Nevada beers, which were ok. I tried their Stout, their Pale Ale and their Ruthless Rye.

The Stout was ok, but I'm not much for Stouts. The Ruthless Rye was cool for its high alcohol content, but was a bit full-on flavour wise. The Pale Ale was pretty excellent.

Still, even when it comes to Boutique beers, American beers can't compare to Australian, let alone European.

Any suggestions as to good Australian beers? Always looking to try good brews.
Sierra Nevada is alright, I prefer Anchor Steam, though.

I am not going to knock the average blue collar beer, though, because on a hot ass summer day an ice cold Bud hits the spot.

Brooklyn's stout is great. And I love Sierra Nevada's Ruthless Rye, it goes down so smooth while still being a bold and hefty beer.

Had an Ommegang Rare Vos last night. Did not enjoy it. I may just not like Pale Ales that aren't the best of IPAs. Sixpoint's Resin IPA is one of those. Spiced and sweet while still being an IPA minus any element of bitter.

Hehe, I like that a thread about cigarettes has naturally progressed into a thread about beer.

Ah, now *this* is a discussion!

Ok, well, like any country you have got your major breweries and your boutique breweries.

With the major breweries, none are terrible, but as you might image they are more of a "pretty good for the price" option, seeing as they are local, mass produced beers. (Even Foster's Group, who own two major brewers, have got some decent beers in this category).

The best major brewery is probably Coopers, out of South Australia. Their main focus is a variety of Ales, and they are quite nice, particularly the Pale Ale.

Then you've got your boutique brewers. These go from widely-available to seriously micro-brewery kind of stuff that would probably be difficult to find overseas, so I'll try to focus on the widely available.

You've got Little Creatures, based out of Western Australia. These guys also focus on Ales. (I mainly drink ales and lagers so they will feature strongly). The Amber Ale and Golden Ale in particular are delicious.

There's James Squire, based out of New South Wales. I think they're actually a subsidiary of a bigger brewer, but I'm not sure. Anyway, once again these guys specialise in ales. They have an exellent IPA and Pale Ale, and also a really nice Pilsener. Pretty much any beer with "James Squire" written on it is tasty enough.

Also I'd recommend Mountain Goat, from right here in Victoria. Ales again. They have several different kinds of IPA, which is interesting and they are all pretty unique, considering they're all still noticably an IPA.

Uh...yeah. Thinking of the other Boutique beers I like, as I said earlier they come from very small micro-breweries, I don't think you'd be able to find them as I doubt if they even export, so I won't bother listing them.

Love my Coopers. Second choice at the Moorings when they're out of Brooklyn. Still need to try Stockholm though.
