As far as I am aware, 86 is 4 points short and of a "masterpiece" by the grading scale, and its the best album I heard last month. Soooooooo, yeah, why not?

I was glad to see an album get the AOTM designation and 'only' an 86. Traditionally, certain reviewers here have given 98-100 ratings every other review, and an 86, in my mind, is a great score.

In my mind, 80's range is fair game for AOTM, while 90's range should be AOTY territory. Still, as with any rating system, it is totally subjective and not nearly as important as the review itself.

I was just surprised since for years you've seen AOTM awards awarded to albums from 90-100.

Glad to see someone thinking outside the box for a change :)

Very nice review Cory. I agree with you that 'Omega White' is the better of the two albums and that Moonspell excels creating this kind of gothic 'Type-O' style of music. The capability of Fernando's voice is lost in all of the growling contained on Alpha Noir. Fernando has a fantastic singing voice which is better suited for the atmosphere that they create on Omega White. Perhaps Moonspell should focus more on these strengths...I know I would enjoy it if they did.

Exactly how I feel. I enjoy both of these albums, but Night Eternal was better, and their high point for me was The Antidote. That album is one of my favorites, a perfect blend.

Complete and total filler on both discs which can only be summed up as filler from Night Eternal. Definitely one of the biggest disappointments for me this year thus far

Not plural. I'm not Steve's grammar teacher. But yeah, this album and its partner are pretty fucking weak.

Not sure how fans of this band cannot dig these albums. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Maybe because White sounds more like an attempt to sound like Type O than Moonspell. And Noir was just a weak attempt at the Night Eternal sound (the title track was mildly legit, though).

Noir sounds nothing like Night Eternal.
