Currently in an argument for my life against angry old schoolers for comments I made regarding the status of Entombed's Left hand path and Swedish death metal.

Guys were basically fellating all over it, I said it sucks and Swedish death metal sucks and now they're all up in arms against little ole me . Here is a direct quote:

seems the reverse of steve's situation is about to occur as I like Left Hand Path, but oh well unlike steve I'm not gonna bitch and moan about people whose opinions differ from my own

Never complained about anyone liking it, the post was directed about comments I made on the NWN forum about Entombed and the fact I said I didn't really enjoy early Asphyx as much as other stuff.

got the impression from your comment that you were complaining about these people who disagree strongly with your position, in which case I would have had some sound advice for you

'course since those idiots resorted to petty insults in a futile attempt to humiliate you because they could not formulate a coherent argument to support their position this whole discussion is pointless

I love Swedish DM, although I admit it's really best as a pathway into other, more intense schools. Still, bands like Entombed and Dismember helped me get into the music and I'll always love them for that.

I'll just link to the entire thread on NWN. Its basically a massive trollfest of people trashing albums from Bathory to Priest to Blasphemy and every legendary/classic band you can think of its gotta a lot of pages, but for the years I've been posting on metal forums its one of the funniest threads I've ever seen.

ha yeah don't think I'd be getting involved with that forum, ever, actually I was expecting something similar over here as the person who suggested I join this place seems to enjoy trolling on my other forum trashing bands like Iron Maid

in fact I'll paraphrase something he has said about Maiden because it's kinda funny

"...they (Iron Maiden) are at times epic but on the whole Linkin Park is a far superior band"

NWNprod is more or less a forum for die hards of black/thrash/death with emphasis on collecting vinyl, obscure bands, and all of the extreme aspects of the music. Its also got an active NS contingent which is rare in the metal scene, I post there because I learn of a lot of black/death metal rarities from some of the older posters who participated in the tape trading days. It really is invaluable in that regard, as for the massive elitism factor I've grown accustomed to it all and its more or less inseparable from the people in the more underground realms of the music

I suspect that given the elitist nature of those individuals I would find that environment to be extremely hostile, you know liking some of the bigger bands in death, black and thrash i.e. Death, Celtic Frost and Megadeth

I don't have any shortage of suggestions from the other forum for death black or thrash so joining another forum looking for just that wouldn't benefit me

could do with some more funeral doom suggestions but I can wait on those

That was a hilarious read going through the first 5 and last 7-8 pages or so. People like that NK7 moron you quoted and also the VON guy (shocking that someone associated with VON would be so benighted!) are the biggest reason metal forums are usually a parody. I love how he boils down anyone that doesn't like one of his multitude of sacred cow bands a fan of that accursed Katharsis. And then the guy's numerous threats to kill people.

I had to think about myself ending up like that NK7 clown ten years from now, raging on and on about this punk kid that could only take or leave Om instead of "properly respecting it". Scary.
