Alex, don't ever be ashamed for loving Draconian. Thanks for a great review that reveals you're personal feelings about Draconian's music and the affect it has on you. I unabashedly admit my musical devotion to this band (am I coming off as a bit biased?) as they always deliver and have never compromised in their style. This is one damn good album.

Welcome back, you have been missed! And as you mentioned I do love Draconian, so the bias is mutual.

I do not care if some consider their brand of doomy gothic melancholy a bit pompous and the growling beast-singing beauty vocal approach a worn out standard.

Well, I pity those who do think so. The beauty and the beast Doomy Gothic metal has produced some of the finest music there is imo.

With that said, this album is a huge disappointment for me. Hardly anything left from the atmosphere of the Draconian that did "The Cry of Silence", "The Abhorrent Rays", "She Dies" and even "Empty Stare"...

But it's not as if I didn't see it coming. There were hints in Turning Season Within (which was extremely enjoyable and still "draconian") for this change of style, and frankly, they do the path of every single band in the genre did, like Tristania, Trail of Tears, Sirenia. Eh...oh well...
