"And yet you defended Amaranthe in one of your posts. Awesome."

Yes, I defended Amaranthe for the same reason I defend Volbeat. I enjoy their music because they make catchy songs with chorus's that stick in your head. End of story. I dont' care if people if people slag Volbeat because they think their music is simplistic, boring, yada yada yada. To me, and many others, the music is enjoyable. I don't need to look and analyze the music to see how complex a riff is or a drum fill. If I want to do that, I'll go listen to jazz music, which frankly I find boring.

Meh, depends on what your reason for listening to music is. I prefer albums that require a bit of thinking and perseverance on the part of the listener to get grips with, which is probably why I get bored of music like Volbeat so fast - there's little to explore. Whereas you probably don't have that much time for music and seek a quick gratification when you do have time for it. Right?

But it's still nu metal to me.

I listen to music for the reason most people listen to music, simple enjoyment. On the contrary, I have my Ipod docked and on most of the day at work so quick gratification isn't an issue, it's a matter of preference. Nothing wrong with wanting to listen to an album that requires you to think and maybe listen to more than once for it to grow on you but at the same time, I find there's nothing wrong with something that grabs you right away and sticks with you from the beginning. Volbeat is one of those bands and what they do, while not overly complex, they do very well. I still don't get how you can call them "nu metal" but that's your opinion. Just like it's mine, Goat's, and Masshole Mcdinglenuts opinion that you're wrong.

Nothing more annoying than people who constantly have to justify their dislike of things by tearing it down or insulting it. "I don't like it" isn't enough; they have make sure they and everyone else understands that it's not a simple question of taste, it's the music or movie or book that sucks.

And if people just said they didn't like it they'd be chastised for not explaining why. You just CAN'T win with some people.

"Nothing more annoying than..."? By your own ethic, weren't you supposed to say "I don't like people who..." ?

In terms of catchy rockin' stuff:

I'm not a big fan of most of the stuff Trapt recommended above me either, but I'd prefer it to Volbeat. I'm the type of guy that probably never should have posted in this thread, anyway. Stick around and you'll learn.

I believe that Protest the Hero, eventhough it´s too complex for my taste, are highly technical and genius musicians, no doubt about that.

But again, what does Protest the Hero have to do with Volbeat? They aren´t even close in genre.

It´s like entering an Opeth review and say well people in my opinion all of you should just hear...Edguy or Stratovarius..

Give me a couple of bands that do the Volbeat style "correctly" and then maybe we can judge..

I explained a few pages ago: downtuned guitars, simplistic and sometimes chugga-chugga riffs, catchy choruses, pop song structures and song progressions, and riding on a fad (the fifties being 'in' at the moment). Feel free to disagree with me, though - the fanboys above did so.

I still dont find any similarities..

Volbeat does a kind of heavy metal with this mixture of rocknroll and old heavy..with a kind of voice that reminds me more of Hetfield than of any nu-metal band..

I can understand all the shit about the mainstream (never heard it on the radio,tv,etc) or that they sound easy catchy or even ¿pop? but nu-metal properly said?

Everytime true metalers find something a shit, its always some kind of nu metal or pop. I know its the easy way to do it because almost all of us think that nu metal shouldnt be metal at all but..

Can it be just a shit?

So besides the "fad" part, would that mean Alice in Chains sounds nu-metal to you? Also the pop song structures thing, I don't see how that defines nu-metal either. Disturbed wrote songs that I don't find poppy in the least yet I still consider them nu-metal, and I can think of plenty of other examples. I'm not saying I have a better definition, I just don't really get what the definition is, seems a bit too broad to me.

Their songs sound like they could be used for "A vampire diary" soundtracks. If I want to listen to super-catchy, radio-friendly metal, I think I much prefer the new Kvelertak album.

Heaven forbid if they step on your precious Volbeat-worshipping toes again, right.

As long as it's not nu metal...

Because if we start messing around types of metal we can end having a very surrealistic discussion here..

In a parallel world kind of discussion..

I like Volbeat, yes. Depend of my mood. Summer is coming so it's good time for that. The blend of Johnny Cash/Elvis/punk/rockabilly fits a happy mood.

Sounds shit for some people? so what, I don't fucking care. I'm over this shit.

They are not a complex or technical band and I can say the same with numerous shitty metal bands. As long as I feel for some catchy stuff, It's a good way, for me, to do so.

But this thread is a brainfarting fest...Geez.
