+1

And yes Zad, we are very fortunate it doesn't sound like Arch Enemy. Or Swansong, for that matter. Just hearing the prereleased track and reading your review makes this for a very anticipated purchase. The production perhaps sounds more modern than I'd like, but Necroticism was so ahead of its time and that sound from Carcass was so short-lived, that I would definitely want a continuation of that sound (with Heartwork too).

Bought it straight away, beyond amazing. Best thing since Heartwork, and definitely on par with it. Been playing it everyday.

only got a single listen in was really impressed. admittedly the only Carcass i know is Heartwork, this seems both heaver and faster, which definitely makes me happy.

can't wait to explore it properly over the next few train trips.

Well suppose I'm bucking the trend here. Didn't like this that much. It was what I was expecting but that's not really a great thing. I guess it's ok, a decent comeback album but I hope their follow up (if there is one) is more Necroticism and less Heartwork.

Crap, I hope you are wrong. I played Necroticism the other day, still an awesome recording.

? hang on so you hope the follow-up to Surgical Steel doesn't sound like a modern version of Necroticism?

Opposite. Didn't want a modern Heartwork.

Yeah that's what I was saying. To me this one feels like a modern Heartwork (probably why I don't like it all that much) so hopefully we get a modern spin on Necroticism.

This album would have been acceptable... Maybe 8 years ago.

Today it just sounds more or less like melodeath fluff without any touch of originality. I would have preferred that Carcass left it hung up, honestly. This doesn't sound like anything memorable or original... Something Carcass once was.

I was hoping they'd bring back maybe the whole death n' roll thing, or something like they had going on Necroticism.

Not a fan and won't be listening to it again any time soon.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards you and RO on this album sadly. The production is nice I guess, but I'm not hearing the Necroticism comparison. That album still sounds fresh today.

it was never going to be rubbish, and it was never going to continue on the spiral that 'swansong' ended, they would have got lynched...
after having seen them at Damnation Festival last weekend, their new stuff works, pretty well, but isn't a patch on the old stuff, it seemed to kill the tone and the fun of the evening a fair bit.

it's a decent album, and better than i thought it was going to be, but there's a lot of filler and over the top cheese on it too.

The whole album is melodeath filler from 2005.

Eh, the title track gives me some hope for the next album because at least that riff and solo are interesting, while the last minute of the track actually deviates from verse/chorus, but there certainly was a lot of filler on this album. Did we all used to love tracks like No Love Lost from Heartwork? At least Death Certificate was fast.

Believe it or not one of my college professors (who is surprisingly into metal) recommended me to listen to this over the weekend after the first week of classes. I feel like a complete turd for missing this last year. This is one bad ass album that I will be breaking my neck to for weeks.

Its a good album, more or less Heartwork II. Maybe a little heavier though
