Nice review, Andy. I heard Fen's first album and liked (not loved) it, while missing out on the second recording. This material is still on the light side for me, but they do what they do very well; the band's clean-vocal sections are significantly better than a lot of bands in this style. Thank you for pointing out the Agalloch similarities as their touring partner; that helps me to contextualize the development of their sound. Altar of Plagues struck me as more musically talented, but this band could jump more comfortably into the mainstream through their vocals. A good listen: rated like an 80 for me, but I see it as a 90 if one personally loves this style.
