The band is amazing, I don't really like gothic music, but they really interest me. Live they owned the stage, a very professional band. The singer actually used to be on the same school I am on :D *proud*. People who need top gothic stuff; this is the album to get.

AWESOME.
What more can I say.Ian tells it all.

NB:Trois Vierges is the dummiest song i've ever heard and even more that they use Roy on this.Shame, he could do so much more.

I love Goth Metal, but Epica is really bad, in fact I don't think there are hardly any good bands in the genre anymore outside of Draconian and Sirenia. Epica, like they are otherwise knows as (Replica) are a cheap rip off of AF and it shows (Yeah, I know Mark starte AF). The Phantom Agony was boring drivel and I don't expect much else from them from the review.

Lets Face it, Goth Metal Reached its Peak in 99, and bands like To/Die/For and others ruined it, turning it into a Pop fest and forgetting the whole "metal" aspect of it. Is a shame becaue from about 96 to 99 there were some great albums.

Epica sounds nothing like After Forever.I can understand you not liking Epica, thats your opinion.
Your statement that the gothic is all washed up is completely untrue.
Beseech, Lacuna Coil, Closterkeller, Darkwell, Elis, For My Pain, Lake Of Tears, Lost In Tears, Mandragora Scream, Mortal Love(if you haven't heard their 2nd album it's the best gothic metal album in recent years), Silentium, Xandria.
Those were just examples of great gothic bands and i'm sure there are plenty more.Bands that still play pure gothic and not like HIM, The 69 Eyes or the last To/Die/For gothrock stuff for the masses.
And with albums coming from Beseech(one of the best gothic groups) and AF later this year and the new Mortal Love i think the gothic genre isn't washed up yet.

Yeah I know it's for the masses so just ignore Lacuna Coil from the rest. They still make damn fine gothic metal.

"Girlie wannabe bad" music ??????There are plenty male fronted gothic acts which are way better. But i think you just have some problem with women in metal music.Women are a perfect fit in gothic with their distinguishing voices.Just because a group uses female singing doesn't make it "a girlie wannabe metal".

Dude, you know Beseech has pretty much gone down the drain with Drama (which was pretty much pop crap), same goes for Charon, Lacrimas Profundre, ToT, Darkseed and about a billion others, at one point, yeah they were great, but even Within Temptation have gone down the pop path, Darkwell has always sucked becasue they could never find a good vocalist, Xandria is horrid as well and so is For my Pain, it all sounds the same. I want Goth Metal, I want good shit like

The Sins of thy Beloved, old Theatre of Tragedy, Darzamat, Artrocis, After Forever, Shellyz Raven, old 3rd and the Mortal, Tristania before Veland left, old Trail of Tears, Sirenia, Dismal Euphony, Sinbenburgen, Peccatum, Madder Mortem, On Thorns I lay, old Beseech, old Charon, Sentenced, The Black League, Draconian and stuff like that......

Dreams of Sanity were a great band, too bad they split up after only 3 albums. I doub't many people remember them. Sandra Schleret's vocals remain to this day unique and better than most of today's female fronted bands.

I agree the gothic scene is not doing too well, the only really good gothic albums I heard lately were LoT's Black Brick Road and Leaves Eyes' Lovelorn.

I guess I'll forever miss the period of early-mid 90's, when bands like Paradise Lost, Cemetary, The Gathering or Tiamat were releasing albums like Icon, Sundown, Mandylion or Wildhoney. No pop shit influences back then, their music was as gothic and as metal as it gets.

Beseech sure made Drama more commercial and it wasn't as good as Souls Highway but "down the drain"???That album was still better than most of the crap that came out back then.
As far as Xandria and For My Pain i won't comment them because you obviously didn't liked them very much.Fallen(For My Pain) is my fav. gothic album so my opinion is subjective.
Most of the band you listed are indeed good;some i haven't heard of, and some i think are very overrated like On Thorns I Lay.
You should listen to Mortal Love if you want good gothic. They have 2 albums and both are great.

Yeah i remember Dreams Of Sanity.I actually found out about them a year after they split up and I was very disappointed when i heard their albums and realized they aren't going to make another one.I listened to "The Game" a month straight, it was so good.

I've noticed some serious hype for this album, and I've never heard Epica before :? I like this style so I'll probably like Epica too. What other bands do they sound like?

A female gothic version of Kamelot....hahaha i'm just kidding.I really don't know any band with a similar sound. Some people would say After Forever, some Within Temptation, and some even Tristania.Maybe it's something from all those bands.Decide for yourself.

No Dude, what i meant is that gothic is for "wannabe bad girls",just to clarify that,of course you are free to disagree.

Good that you explained that out.I thought you meant the music.
And about the thing that gothic is for "wannabe bad girls" i completely agree. Some girls i know that listen to gothic music think it would be cool if they look like a vampire or a witch. They get all those clothes and accessories and make-ups.The only thing they manage to do however is to just look silly, stupid and sometimes even ugly (like a corpse brought back to life).I find that a bit to extreme in letting everyone know how much you like that kind of music and mostly its just showing-off.

I've only listened to this one twice so far, but I don't think it's as good as the debut. Something just seems to be lacking. Maybe it needs more listens.

I'm generally not a fan of Gothic Metal, but I really liked The Phantom Agony.
