Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus gig coming up in a couple of weeks. Excited to see (and hear) Zetro back in Exodus and have never seen Suicidal live so hopefully this will be good. Seeing Slayer more out of obligation than anything else as the band is clearly not the beast it once was.

Seeing Midnight, Goatwhore, and Samhain on Halloween. Motherfucking Danzig on Halloween! Gonna get fuck as drunk.

How was Danzig? I managed to catch the old fuck on the last iteration of his Misfits legacy shows. He's pretty hit and miss live but the band really smoked the night I saw them.

Danzig was legit. The Samhain tracks aren't complicated and even some of the more ballad-y tracks like Mother of Mercy and Walk the Night, he was able to get through. The environment was weird, but they rocked it. And Midnight stole the show. Never listened to them before but damn...

Watain/Mayhem/Revenge coming to town three days after Insomnium/Dark Tranquillity. I am tempted to go to hear how Mayhem's new material will sound live. Watain must be intriguing to see with their stage presece. Didn't like their latest album though. On Revenge... never listened to an entire album, but can appreciate the savagery in their music. The price of admission is worth seeing Mayhem alone. I would love to hear some tracks from Chimera and also some tracks from Sworn to the Dark.

Seeing in Feb, Behemoth/Cannibal Corpse/Aeon/Tribulation. Very much looking forward to see Behemoth live again. Also have seen many praises from Charles here on Tribulation so that seems interesting. Winter will turn out to be a great season, indeed!

Just got a heads up on that tour from Live Nation. I saw Aeon at Summer Slaughter a while back, good stuff. Haven't seen CCorpse in years and I always love Behemoth so looking forward to the show.

Yep, I'd have missed it anyway. Work got in the way.

Anyway, seeing Opeth tomorrow with Alcest. Opeth's set-list not the most impressive but I generally enjoy a good deal of it though. Never listened much to Alcest. Any good?

Atmosphere is important for this band in a live setting. Saw them a few years ago without their full lighting/stage set-up and they were very okay.

Alcest's music is very pretty. I personally think it's not particularly composed for a live setting.

Now that I think of it, I saw Watain several years back. Almost slipped my memory. They weren't in their usuall stage setting at the time as you see now in recent times. I'm not too fond of their music anyway.

Opeth yesterday with Alcest. Latter was boring possibly disrupted by bad soundwork. Opeth is not my favourite band but my god, sheer demonstration of power. Surprised at how well stuff from Morningrise and Orchid worked.

Now that's more like it, Slayer! :dio: Really solid performance tonight from the thrash vets which gives me some new hope about their future. The band powered through a well balanced if fairly predictable set with old favorites like Hell Awaits, War Ensemble and Dead Skin Mask really getting the Monday night crowd moving. The sound mix was as good as I'd ever heard at a Slayer gig with the guitars bold and up front and Araya's vocals clearly audible above the din. Speaking of Tom, he was much stronger onstage than I've seen him in several years and worked through the entire set with little noticeable fatigue. He's been real iffy performance wise since his back injury but tonight he appeared as good as ever, headbanging aside. Holt feels fully integrated into the Slayer machine now matching King riff for riff as if they'd been playing together for years. Hopefully that synergy will translate into the studio when they decide to start writing the next album.

Supporting acts Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus were solid as expected but the bass and drums were way too heavy in the mix for both bands. This plagued Exodus especially as the guitars weren't nearly as sharp as they should be which robbed the songs of a bit of their bite. It was nice to hear Zetro back in the band again as his vocals fit Exodus much better than Rob Dukes. Toxic Waltz now sounds like Toxic Waltz again. That said, he doesn't command the audience nearly as well as Dukes did, which was a disappointment. It was a painfully short set for them (5 songs in total) but the band did their best to make the most of it. I was really stoked to finally see Suicidal play live and they did not disappoint. To be honest, they were the hardest working band tonight delivering a non-stop barrage of killer tunes culled primarily from their first four (and best) records. Like Exodus, the guitars were a little muddled by the thumping rhythm section. While this hurt Holt and Co. to a moderate extent, it really showcased the inherent layer of groove in Suicidal's sound which was impossible not to move to. All their songs were first rate but Possessed to Skate was a personal highlight for me as it was the song that got me into the band and also reinforced my love for the X-Games.

Final Verdict: If you love thrash metal, then this is definitely worth your money. The old fucks delivered tonight.

Exhumed is fun, and Origin is ridiculously good these days.

How is the Death tribute band? I know Steve DiGiorgio and a couple of the guys from Cynic are in the group but I've never had the chance to catch them live.
