Terribly eager to hear this. Sounds amazing and a band that sculpts originality. Comparisons to Below the Lights? Can't wait to get my hands on this album.

A lot to unpack in your review Zad, which I will do after I've heard the album. I was just listening to Larger than Time, Heavier than Night (track 1 from Mardraum) a few couple nights ago, that track is one of several they've released over the years which always amazes. Below the Lights was one of their stronger albums no doubt, but I remain forever partial to Isa and Vikingligr Veldi. Even if some of their albums since Isa have left me underwhelmed, I'll always admire their Monumensional (heh) talent.

I'm very excited to hear this album. Below the lights is definitely one of my favorites. I've already got a top ten album of the year IMO with Blind Guardian's Beyond the Red Mirror so I'm guessing I will have another with this one. Enslaved has never disappointed me in the 18 years I have been listening to them. They are up there with Iron Maiden, Rush, Amorphis, My Dying Bride, Voivod, and Napalm Death for me.

Looking forward to it! :) Hope you like it as much as I did. And interesting that you rate Isa so highly, I think it's definitely on the lower end of the Enslaved spectrum quality wise. Still a good album, of course, which just goes to show what a solid band they are.

And agreed, Voxmonster, with all but Amorphis. Enslaved are definitely one of my favourites.

Was just listening to Eld and Below the lights at work the other day on my stereo.

I probably might listen to a few songs, but this bands BM stuff/early prog interests me more. Is Monumension worth checking out?

I think Monumension is the first album when they became more about prog than black metal. It has some very good moments, but is all together less focused than Below the Lights.

Another band that seems to never let me down. Based on this review alone, the melding of old ideas with some new ones sounds intriguing, especially when Below The Lights gets tossed around in the conversation. These guys are just a damn fun listen, no matter what mood i'm in I can find an album of theirs to put on. I was a bit late to the dance but very glad I got to know this band !

Well this album is quite something, more memorable to me than anything they've done since Ruun, or maybe even Isa (btw, metal-archives agrees with me on Isa, they have it tied for 2nd with Maradraum behind only Vikingligr Veldi). I've listened to it several times now, but I'm not quite sure exactly how great it is yet, just that it flows very well. Building with Fire is definitely a strong track, and the title track sounds a lot like Below the Lights (or Neogenesis from Isa) with its start-stop riff, but my personal favorite is the closer, Daylight, with its Bathoryesque build and then quieter, half Alcest/half Floyd mid section with the massive guitar solo before going back to Bathory.

Very good album, and good review too to help me get me back on the Band's bandwagon.

Yeah killer record been listening to it the past couple days. Building with Fire is probably my favorite track.
