I like the label "Unblack" better than "Christian Black Metal."

However, Black Metal is a genre having as much to do with attitude and pagan (anti-christian) beliefs as it does the techniques and chords and tritones used in the creation of the dark music so I tend to have a hard time understanding why a Christian would have the need to create dark atmospheres.

Christianity is generally about faith in eternal life based on knowing what happens when we die. There is a general feeling of happiness with Christianity because they believe no matter what horrible things they've done; in the end they will go to a wonderful place just by showing remorse and believing in God.

Death Metal and Black Metal is more centered around the idea of understanding the inevitability of death and the dark reality of the unknown. To me, Death and Black Metal explore the endless possibilities that exist when it comes to understanding existence and death.

That's why I just don't understand why any true Christian would want to make music with chord progressions, arrangements, and tones that have been known for hundreds of years to evoke feelings of uneasiness or darkness.

It seems like a conflict of interest to use the Black Metal style of music to convey Christian Ideology.

There have been plenty of non-Christian black metal bands reviewed here that play in the black metal style and have an uplifting sound. Conversely, W.A.S.P.'s last album was quite dark, yet was filled with Christian themes. You don't have to be a non-Christian to enjoy or want to play good music, regardless of how dark it sounds.

It's just goofy.
It makes about as much sense as Toby Keith or Tim McGraw writing songs about how the Iraq war was a mistake, that the US are the real terrorists and furthermore, should be more like Sweden.
