An utterly engrossing and stunning post-modern opus, that silently, and easefully, tears your soul apart.

Explosive and riveting.

Red Garland's reductive approach, in straightforward and affective melodic blues-modality making, seeks each harmony, with an intently compassionate demeanor, never out of rhythm, and always played to settle the listener, in his self-conceived grooves.

Still in conservation of the then, newly-developing Be-bop subgenre of jazz which was booming in the 60's, however, on this release, is yet still, budding, and has not fully come to fruition. Musical events of the jazz-milieu, have not yet acquired, their pomposity and bang, though, the release here, is evident of the capacity of all group members, who are involved, and would become, just in a few short years, with dazzling display of musicianship, and in their full capacities, leaving a permanent mark, on the short-lived sub-genre, in its purest form, at the time, as a major genre of music.

Steadfast in the tempering of an unusual state of unity amongst the interaction of musicians involved, but in their dependence, on one another, each, find their way towards independence, without dissent or divergence.

I had heard of Art Pepper's name in the past, but upon reading on him, I did not find the greatest motivation to acquire much of his work, of reasons of habit, and lifestyle. But I had also read that he was an outstanding saxophonist, and this particular, live recording, is testament to those abilities. The playing of all musicians whom are present on this recording, are by all jazz standards, sound, though, with one meddling problem, which cannot be overlooked, namely, its engineering job, making a live recording which should otherwise be, oozing with vigorous vibrancy, muddled and weak. All in all, a well-performed live release, bursting with great energy.
