There is an absolutely awesome 3 book series by Harry Harrison called West of Eden. It's about dinosaurs not becoming extinct but instead evolve into a bio-technologically advanced race called the Yilane. But as the Ice Age sets in they are forced to migrate south and encounter humans for the first time. Then of course war breaks out. Great stuff.

Fvck Dragonlance.
Go for The Icewind Dale Trilogy and all books by R.A.Salvatore for that matter.

Well unlike you I'm not saying anything bad from either one. Both are great for someone just getting started in fantasy books. Dragonlance has a bit more humor which I like but it doesn't suit everyone.

A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin (first book is called A Game of Thrones). Greatest books ever. Icewind Dale trilogy is definitely good too, but compared to A Song of Ice and Fire...

Re-reading "The Bachman Books" by, err, Richard Bachman ...
his style bears an uncanny resmblance to Stephen King, though.

I was joking so i didn't mean to put it this way. There really isn't anything bad to say about each of them.
I still prefer Forgotten Realms though. :P

just don't read what you probably call action packed. my recommendations are:

don't read any crappy ADnD books

instead read A Song Of Ice And Fire by George RR Martin or Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay.

Crappy from your point of view of course.
Just give Orion a chance to make up his own mind about D&D books.

Rage is my fav as well, though as you mentioned they are all very good. Am on The Long Walk as of now.
I think they resolved that feud awhile back... wasn't it chronicled in The Dark Half?

It is quite good... hmm, there is a similar scene concerning a certain mock-funeral in The Dark Half, so perhaps my facetious remarks bore some truth.
