I have since been reading that the sunwheel is often used as a NS/WP symbol given the fact the swastika is reviled and in some countries, banned. I am wondering if that can be taken as a NS reference here.

To be honest I'm not sure if Drudkh are NSBM. Roman Saenko may be NS but I don't know if Drudkh has NS content. Is there any concrete proof about it.....?

I think sunwheel is enough proof... On top of that, who cares?

I had another question on this one, it is normal that the acoustic parts are really fucked up, like a heavily worn LP or something, when it's acutally new?

Ahh... Where else can you find so dark and deep tranquility and such profoundly beautiful melancholy?... This is uttered -both as a statement- but also as a question. Since if anyone knows i'm very interested.

By the way. To those of you who is turned off by the NS element of Drudkh:
Almost all of the true (or original - to use a less mannered word) (2nd wave) black metal bands had racist, nationalist and sometimes downright nazi elements in them and some used NS-iconography. This goes for both Darkthrone, Emperor, Mayhem and of course Burzum. If it doesn't make you condemn them it shouldn't make you condemn Drudkh either. Just enjoy the great music.

To answer your question:

Ulver - Bergtatt (but you already know that)
Lunar Aurora - A Haudiga Fluag (from the split with Paysage D'Hiver, masterpiece)
Interitus - The Journey
Forest (Rus)- As A Song In The Harvest Of Grief (or whatever else)
Godspeed You Black Emperor (this is postrock but accomplishes the same thing in another but related way)
Die Toten Kehren Wieder Mit Dem Wind
Forest Of Fog - Rabenflug
Angmar (Fra) - Demo
Darkestrah - Sary Oy
And I can go on forever like this :D Ask if you need more...
Agalloch
Woods Of Ypres - Against The Seasons
Klabautamann

Very much obliged... There's a couple of names here I am not familiar with.

Thank you for your fast response.

You must be a bona fide black metal-junkie considering the length of that list

Hehe, more or less... No problem dude, I you want more, I can provide in more... There are a lot of BMhead on these board that like the same emotionally tinted and nature oriented BM. If you want just good melancholic and not really nature oriented BM, there is even more. A lot of it comes from Germany these days, but France also has a shitload of this music. Some of the French NSBM is also very interesting, they combine utter rawness with brutal power and victory, yet they drown it all in a huge pool of melancholy. Check out Sombre Chemin and Seigneur Voland. Stinky ideology but great music that is.

What is more important is that I forgot to add Odium Immortalis and Trollskogen to the first list... Check it out!

Birth of a black metal-crack baby... I wouldn't know whether to gaze in awe and amazement or to cover my eyes in disgust..

I've heard a bit of Odium Immortalis too. Pretty good but I appreciate raw vocals better than clean. There is of course exceptions. (It works on 'Bergtatt'). Mabye I should give them one more shot.

Well, Odium Immortalis indeed use Nagelfar like vocals, but they are mostly raw and only a few times per disk cleaner. On their site are more songs, there is Schönheit Der Einsamkeit, but also Geisel Der Menschkeit, which is on the same disk as Schönheit, as well as on another one. Geisel gives a better impression of that disk. I know the clean vocals need some time to get used to, but I actually now love em.

I downloaded a sample of A Haudiga Fluag from the Lunar Aurora homepage and I was very pleased.. I mean VERY PLEASED.. Afterwards I wanted to order it but I couldn't find it anywhere. Where did you get yours?

Their Ars Morendi album is everywhere though. Is it any good? I didn't care much for the synths on the sample (Black Aureole).

In case you're interested to read a review, click here.
I got my copy on Fimbul productions, but she is sold out there now, I found you another label here.
You won't regret it, I currently see it as best BM ever.
I haven't heard Ars Morendi, but the other Lunar Aurora records I have heard are very far from A Haudiga Fluag. Still good, but far from that split.
