The only Nevermore album I have is Dreaming in Neon Black, and its pretty good, I like Warrel Dane's stuff with Sanctuary better even though they're a second rate Liege Lord. Anyway I wouldnt say its power metal or thrash as the reviewer did......I'd call it un-power metal.

Awesome CD. I'm not sure if I prefer this or Dreaming Neon Black, but this is an amazing CD. Nevermore is one of the only bands that I listen to for the lyrics... I just love them. Sure, I really like the music and vocals, but the lyrics are what keeps me coming back for more.

Well Septimus.....seeing as how I am pretty well versed in power thrash I can say that Nevermore sounds nothing like the aforementioned genre. In fact I'm pretty sure Agent Steel and Death Row would be offended by you lumpiing them with the mid paced layerings of Nevermore.

Nevermore are pretty hard to define genre-wise. All I know (and all I care for) is that they sound great, and this album is no exception.

Well, let me explain my reasons for the "Power/Thrash" description. I called it power/thrash because of the fact that the guitar is very thrashy, and warrell's vocals are very high pitched at times and very powerfully portrayed, much like power metal singers. The guitar/bass/drums are nothing like power metal, I just based the "power" part of the statement on Warrell's vocal style at times on the album and the other Nevermore albums. Hope this clears something up.

Brent

Well being a Thrash afficionado I don't care for the comparison. Warrel Dane's vocals are not very thrashy.....Abba had high pitched vocals and no one calls them thrash. And the guitars are not thrashy....there is not down beat speed picking or heavy down picking. So I'd just say the guitars are heavy metal...even though former members of Forbidden were in Nevermore. But on the average I'd just call them an atmospheric heavy metal band...sans the thrash. So I hope that explains where I'm coming from. Warrel Dane was thrashier with Sanctuary....and even then he sounded like king Diamond or Andy michaud from Liege Lord.

Well versed in power thrash? Is that even a genre? Im sure Agent Steel and Death Row do not claim to play 'power thrash.'

In any case, my arguement was that power/thrash metal gives me an idea of what this hard-to-classify music may sound like and un-power metal, like I said, gives me fuck all.

whats so hard to understand about power thrash??? Agent Steel, Paradox, Death Row, Heathen......a lot of thrash bands in the 80's played power metal riffs and leads over thrash beats....thats what I meant, its not brain surgery. So with that in mind Nevermore is not power thrash, and never will be....case closed.

there was a band, who did a song in David Lynch's Sailor & Lula, who claimed to play power thrash if I remember well... was that Powertrip... not bad anyway but long forgotten i think...

and, considering I feel both a power metal & thrash feel to Nevermore, yes, I could say they play powerthrash but to me they only play the best contemporary american heavy metal !

I don't hear a whole lot of thrash in Nevermore. It's darker and heavier than most power or heavy metal, but these aren't solid technical aspects, which I think is what is needed to classify a band.

I do feel a thrash energy in their music... maybe it's the dark aspect of it...

to me i'd say Nevermore are 50% Heavy Metal, 25% Power Metal, 10% Thrash & 15% Progressive Metal... a good combination ! :D

You can call it whatever genre you like, it really boils down to personal opinions of what the music sounds like and no one can dictate otherwise.

I think Nevermore have a definite thrash influence, above all in the riff department.

.....And you still haven't explained what un-power metal is suppose to mean..

well you're wrong. The only thrash they had in them was when Tim Calvert from Forbidden was in the band. So no thrash here. Its not even a matter of opinion. Thrash is a firmly set genre with special characteristics...that being heavy staccatto down picking, or super super fast speed picking. All behind a thrash beat. none of which is present in Nevermore...except maybe to the smallest degree in which case its not enough of a degree to label it as thrash. The 10 or 15% emokid was talking about isnt enough to call it thrash. And 10-15% is a bit generous....I'd give it .5-1% thrash. Raven thrashes more.
