He is like 30 something.

And I knew who she was, that's why I asked if she was like 10,000 years old.

Yeah, from the first Grease movie. It is an insult to "metaldom" and "metalness" if we mention Grease on here too?

Here's the only post I'll make on this thread. Everyone that is getting all whiny over the fact that I reviewed HIM, you make me laugh my ass off. I didnt review this because I got it for free, no I paid for it. I didnt review this because MR had a team meeting and decided "Ok guys, lets be trendy and current, Ben you review HIM this week, Jay next you'll interview Bobaflex. Ok guys... BREAK!"

Allowing yourself one post in this topic just to discourage responses like this one, is a bit lame. The fact that you are laughing your ass off, is a bit childish, too. It almost seems as if you wrote up a review of this shoddy album just to post it and laugh maniacally at the obvious cries of outrage. Please, if you want to review something that creates fuss on these boards, there are plenty of other options.

Quote:
I just got through touring with Lilitu, God Dethroned, Nightrage, Manntis, Thine Eyes Bleed, and Hell Within. Do you want to know what the guys in Nightage, Lilitu and God Dethroned listen to? There are guys of Nightrage who really like Korn, Slipknot, Meshuggah, Corrosion of Conformity alot.

I'm pretty sure we don't care. Their musical tastes don't surprise me.

Quote:
On Manntis' RV in Chicago we had people from Nightrage, Atrocity, Lilitu and Hell Within onboard drinking and partying to the sounds of Motley Crue, Firehouse, Testament, the new Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera, and HIM. Everyone was having a blast singing along and air guitaring and whatnot. Other groups that were on the playlist on the tour were : 30 Seconds to Mars, John Mellencamp, Dream Theater, Emperor, Darkest Hour, Johnny Cash, R. Kelley, Paul Oakenfold, Nightwish, Within Temptation, 3 Inches of Blood, Rammstein, Threshold, the classic rock stations on the radio, Kelly Clarkson, drum n bass mixes, and a whole slew of other stuff.
So personally I think its funny as hell that all of you are throwing a fit over a HIM review when bands you listen to and admire probably have this album sitting in their collection right now as well as others that you would cry and get red in the face over if we even brought them up.

In case you hadn't noticed: most of us aren't cocksucking fanboys who learn their musical idols' playlist by heart and listen to everything they listen to just to be able to tell themselves their idol would be so proud of them. Hell, I wouldn't care if I found out that Samoth listens to 50 Cent in his tour bus, as long as it wouldn't affect his own music. Frankly, I don't care about an artist's personal life or how he would appear off stage; the music is of greater importance.

Whatever the case: the fact that bandmembers from a bunch of half-decent acts listen to a certain band, doesn't justify a review for it on a site it has nothing to do with.

Yes, be proud of your sense of musical freedom. I'm sure few of those who are concerned about the integrity of this site can manage to be proud of a HIM review on the front page.

No, but it certainly would be insulting if it was reviewed on a horror reviews site.

I was discussing sandy vagina. And to be honest, I think Grease is a great movie! :D Have you ever heard Less Than Jake's album called Greased? They cover 8 songs from the Grease movie ska-punk style. It's great.

By the way, what's the deal with the Dark Light title on the CD cover? My copy looks like it should glow or something, but it doesn't and you can barely see it, but the pic here shows it very bright. Did it scan that way or something? Light reflection, maybe?

They are from Omaha, and the singer was also a substitute teacher. I had him for History when I was a sophomore.

Dude, I think you sort of missed the point of Ben's response. He wasn't saying that you had to listen to, or even like or respect, the bands your favorite bands listen to. The point here is, I think, that HIM is really not an album that justifies all the complaints. Like I said, I think this band is a rock band for the most part, but I cannot argue with anyone who says they are goth metal. Are they so different from To/Die/For and For My Pain? No way! But no one would call those bands pop rock!

I think the reactions here come down to the perception of the band looking through the eyes of a 12 year old psuedo-goth kid who shops at Hot Topic because it's "cool." The Bon Jovi review didn't get as many complaints as this review has, not nearly as many. Why is that?

Really?? Isn't that fucking weird?! This is a great band, though. They've done some killer covers. Ever heard their Slayer covers? :D

Actually I never heard anything by them. Ska isn't really my cup O' Tea. But, he was the coolest sub I ever had.

Bon Jovi is old hat.

Really though, Bon Jovi is, or was at least, pop-metal. Even metalcore and Nu-metal are metal, even if many consider them a disgrace. HIM simply isn't, they aren't even hard rock. Not to me anyway. You and others are obviously entitled to disagree with that.

Or if you want less idealism and more reality, I could just say that they don't suck as hard. Hence the lighter reaction. "This band sucks" may not be a valid point for an argument, but you can hardly deny that it's a main factor in threads like this. Bon Jovi isn't the devastating force of bad music that HIM is, so they get off easier.

Dude, you are the last person who should be talking about elitism. You cried about seeing the singer from Blind Guardian wear a fucking sports jersey for chrissakes! You called Randy and Shaun posuers because they like (good) Electronica on the side. Now, granted, I haven't seen you in a while, but I doubt San Antonio has changed you that much. I see a massive case of the pot calling the kettle black here dude. I could care less if you like H.I.M., you are free to like anything that catches your fancy, but I don't feel it belongs on the site. If I ran a Heavy Metal review site I wouldn't be posting Aphex Twin reviews on it just because I felt like it. I have no poblem with Hard Rock reviews, as it relates to the evolution of metal, but H.I.M. isn't Hard in the least.

Well, man, we can disagree and obviously we do, but I cannot classify HIM as anything less than rock, and like I said, labelling them "metal" is fine by me. You may disagree, and everyone that does it always disagrees they're doing it, but HIMs popularity within the trendy, psuedo goth world of 12 year olds and Insane Clown Posse fans may be skewing your perception of the band themselves. It is very hard to like a band that idiots obsess over, trust me, I know. It's hard because you almost feel ashamed, like other people are going to associate you with said idiots because you listen to a band they listen to.

Just an opinion, you may disagree, but it happens all the time.
