The Eternal. Check them out, too. I just picked up Sleep Of Reason and it's excellent. It's more of a mix of doom and goth metal, like doom meets To/Die/For.

Dragonauta are a very good stoner/doom band too, very stylish. Skepticism and Nortt are great if you likes the funeral doom side of things, and November's Doom and Mar de Grises are both pretty much better than MDB. shh don't tell anyone I said that..

good suggestions all round here, haha

I agree, I just think MDB - Angel and the Dark River is more accessible for a newcomer to the genre. Overall, November's Doom and Mar de Grises are more my style, however. I have not heard Dragonauta yet, but will check them out. I love my stoner doom.

EDIT - I just realized the Sleep homage in this band's name. I must hear them, but I'm having trouble finding anything on the net. Lizardtail, any ideas?

The Eternal are an Australian band, and a damn good one at that. Australia has the most ignored metal scene in the world. NO ONE i know of has heard many (or any) Austrlian metal. It's such a shame.

Not just Australia, many other countries too....

The first four Candlemass albums are all great.

everything I've heard by them has been via download so it's out there.. I have two splits of theirs, one with Abdullah, one with Los Natas, and both have good material. metal-archives is down too so I can't yet see if they even have an album..
