Nicely reviewed, I can tell you're enthusiastic..

I must have missed something when I heard the promo copy, though.. 94/100? I would have been more likely to give it 49/100; I'll have to find it again and give it a more dedicated listen.

I too am enthusiastic about everything Arjen gets involved with.
The review score might be a bit high, but other review sites are giving good marks to this album too, so I am looking forward to getting my hands on it, even more so after reading the review here at MetalReviews (one of my favourite sites ofcoarse  )

49/100?? Seriously, that's ridiculous! This album kicks ass. 97/100, or thereabout, EASY!!

This sounds like something that would put me to sleep, just like Ayreon did. Arjen is a good songwriter but IMO his talent is FAR eclipsed by his ambition.

Devin Townsend, Dan Swano and Arjen are all in the same league.

Yea, the album sounds good, I will try for some more time to really get to know its music better.
I dont know much about Arjen, does anybody know what instrument(s) he plays or does he just compose the music?

He can play everything as far as I know, and he does compose 99.9% of the music.

Amazing, does he or did he study music, or is he an autodidact (is that the correct word for it?)

I haven't got a clue.

I'm just going from one listen of the promo copy, there just didn't seem to be much interesting going on in the music. Very relaxing, I'm sure, but I was hoping for some hopelessly indulgant pomp, Arjen's good for nothing else. and the singer's voice was too flowery for me, I don't like it when they try to impress you, I prefer sincerity in vocals.

edit: for example I'd say bjork was a zillion times better than this singer, even if she's technically no match.

I think Dan and Devin are way past him. The Human Equation was genius but everything else Arjen has done has been boring and cheesy.

Yeah human equation is by far Arjen's best piece of work, but i really liked that album... 95% and still going up. In fact listened to it 80 times (songs) since I got it 5 days ago...

Yes Arjen compose and write 99% of his stuff, plays guitar, bass, sing, produce everything and record everything in his "castle".

First post ftw !!

I think this album sounds like Ayreon when Arjen is being heavy, and without the prog elements, and Mandylion-era The Gathering. Marcela's vocals are EXCELLENT. Bjork has nothing on this chick. I think the songs are very catchy and emotional. Yes, indeed, I love this album.

As for Arjen, he is definitely up there with Devin Townsend and Dan Swano! He is very diverse! Just take The Final Experiment, Ambeon, The Human Equation and this album and compare them! They're very different from each other. Plus his work with Vengeance was excellent! Personally I think the Universal Migrator albums are the best Ayreon albums. I love The Human Equation, but Labrie's vocals are it's downfall.

Agreed. Arjen is nowhere near those two gents.

Have you ever heard Dan's Unicorn material?? It's unreal when you hear that and think "This is the dude that does Edge Of Sanity?"

He recently sent me a Ribspreader master CD by mistake! Hahaha! I was awaiting the Nightingale 10th Anniversary CD and I get this CDR in the mail. It was weird, I figured it was a mistake. I sent him an e-mail asking about it and he's says:

Aaah…shit!!! So that is where it went!!!

Just keep it..don´t MP3 it....please!!!

I will send you the Nightingale and Unicorn stuff a.s.a.p.

Ever so sorry!!!!

Dan

Hahaha! =) Not a bad collector's item, though, huh??
