You're missing the point. The quality of music and metal is not defined by the best drummer, the fastest guitar player or the most or least riffs with acoustic transitions as you say. It is obviously something much deeper that that, something that is difficult to define but almost always in some way stirs your emotions. MoP does that for me and millions of others out there. I just don't see how any metal fan can listen to Battery or Damage inc. and not get into it. But if you do evaluate this album has a thrash metal album, than yes you will be dissappointed because it isn't thrash metal. Kill em All was thrash - this album for it's time is progressive metal, just like Opeth, Tool, Dream Theater, etc., all of which I love and I have a feeling you don't.

Oh man, you are going to lose this one with Dead Machine. Trust me, get out while you can and introduce yourself on a different forum section.

Opeth is not progressive. At all.

I like Tool when they're writing actual songs.

Dream Theater is the most overrated band on earth.

Maybe you'd like Opeth if you looked at them as a Black metal band? :P

I don't, Akerfeldt has one of the crappest moustaches I have ever seen. Either grow it properly or shave it off!

Hey, someone's got to make a stand for the right to grow chocolate-milk mustaches.

Now appearing on a billboard near you: Opeth, modelling Calvin Klein. And I bet they're in the next Spiderman film.

It's not selling out! They're just trying to allow the maturity and growth of their artistry so as to not become stale! They'e progressing!

 I liked The Grand Conjuration, despite all that "signing to Roadrunner" bollocks. Doubt I'll get the album, earlier stuff is far better, and if half as good as Still Life it's a must-buy!

(So much for Master Of Profits...lol)

Completely overrated album. Its good... Not great, or anywhere near Classic. There were large amounts of thrash albums better than this in '86, possibly metal's best year.
how dare you soil the goo name of master of puppets this is no doubt metallicas best album

Yes, and the s/t is S-club 7's best album.
I'm not denying that this kicks ass, but just because it's Metallica does not make it godly. Buy Kreator-Pleasure to Kill if you haven't already, it'll show you what Metallica COULD'VE been. :)

Master of Puppets isn't their best, just their most overrated. Justice for All and Ride the Lightning were better.

I stongly disagree (I'll not play the "I was there" card on that one Aaron  )

MOP is still the landmark for how quality thrash should sound... that and Coroner's Punishment For Decadence...

NP
Metallica "Master of Puppets" (I was 15 y o the first time I heard that... alost 20 years later this still blows my mind...)

It's a good album, I won't disagree with you there, Stefan.

I didn't know you were that much of an oldtimer. Hails to you for sticking with metal as long as you have.
