frustrated too! trying to do some finance homework.. btw, can any one give me a hand?

compound interest forula:
[initial amount of money] x (1+[interest rate])^[time period]

the rate is for 3 months, 2.46950766. for comodity i'll refer to it as "I" (no quotes).

some guy took out a loan, to be paid in 3 payments:
3500 after 3 months
5800 after 9 months
9300 after 15 months.
[all 3 payments include interest]

how much did he take out in the first place?

i added all 3 and got 18600 as total amount due. now, using the formula:
18600 = C [initial amount] x (1+i)^5

5 because there are 5 three month periods in 15 months.
so, C = 18600/(1+i)^5, right?
NO! the value given by the solution in the book is different.

yes, i'm asking for help with Finance in a metal forum.

What is C?

C would be the initial amount invested/borrowed/whatever.

in the foruma (compound interest)
C(1+i)^n

c initial amount, i rate, n time (according to rate - i.e. if the rate is yearly, then the time should be in years)

anyways a classmate showed up on MSN and it's solved, thx :)

Well I'm glad you are no longer frustrated.

I, on the other hand, could punch myself in the face

5,555(1 + i) + 9,284,294,798,324,729.1(90x) + 892839(98y)times!!!

i = 9.000001918274648392001873648
x = 999,999,999
y = 89

Still recovering from headache after all the fucking fireworks going off last night. We should worship Fawkes, not burn him in effigy!

My neck's a bit sore and I'm kinda tired. Thats what happens when you get to hear Primal Fear, Manowar, HammerFall, Rhapsody and Slayer palyed back to back in a club. :)

Then things to a bit of a turn for the worse.

Slightly confused and strangely depressed. I can't decide wether I should go for a walk to clear my head or sit around in my apartment and stare into nothingness... I think I'll go with the latter. At least in that way I can avoid unnesessary interaction with humans.

Pissed off, bored and tired at the same time. I have had so much homework this week so I've pretty much been sitting in front of the computer from 3-4 pm to 9-10 pm every single day this week.

I have an essay due tomorrow on A Tale of Two Cities, and my English teacher thinks I'm a cocksoldier, so I should really work on it. He'll take off points for everything.

As a result, I am frantic. I probably shouldn't be posting here.

Of course.

You, I'm not so sure about. Write the speech! Imagine that a grizzly bear, a raging rabid grizzly bear, is being kept, caged, behind you. If you don't finish the speech soon, he'll be released and savagely maim you until dead.

I like it. It's not Dickens's best, though; that title goes, arguably, to either Oliver Twist or Nicholas Nickleby.

Too much simplicity, if you ask me, and too much 'introduced solely to make a point' characters are the main downfall of A Tale, if you ask me.

Well... you could make it a black bear, but it doesn't carry the same respect as a grizzly bear does. Not as motivational.

Do what works.
