I thought they were going to take further the advances made on In Their Darkened Shrines, which was their best album in my opinion. I would liked to have Nile integrate more of the interesting and downright bizarre soundscapes from the first track, Halls of Saurian Entombment, of the In their Darkened Shrines title track, as well as from I Whisper to the Ear of the Dead. I suppose Sanders' side-projects allowed him seperate the non-death metal elements out of Nile, and that is why Annihilation of the Wicked sounds more like every other death metal band. I think Nile's uniqueness is their greatest strength, and I hope their next album is more epics with more intstrumentation. Still much better than the standard fare 3-minute song blastbeat fest prevalent in modern death metal.

Chapter of Obeisance before Giving Breath to the Inert One in the Presence of the Cresent Shaped Horns is the coolest song title ive ever seen!

Dusk Falls upon the Temple Of The serpent On The Mountain of Sunrise is another good one!

I think Bal-Sagoth has the coolest of song titles, like

The Dark Liege of Chaos is unleashed at the Ensorcelled Shrine of A'Zura Kai (The Splendour of a Thousand Swords gleaming beneath the Blazon of the Hyperborean Empire Part II)

and

And lo, when the Imperium marches against Gul-Kothoth, then dark sorceries shall enshroud the Citadel of the Obsidian Crown

It's funny that that guy mentioned Slayer, because Nile is one of the more overrated recent Metal acts in my humble opinion.

They've definitely done some interesting things, but that can only carry you so far before your sound becomes stale, and for me Nile is about as stale as it gets. Especially after Lykathea Aflame, Nile just sounds so lame in comparison.

I can't rate the album since I haven't heard the whole thing, but I've heard 2 or 3 tracks a few times each now and it just doesn't grab me at all. Nile is far, far away from the top of the modern Death Metal ranks for me.

Funny how people say they haven't changed their sound, if you compare this album with, say, 'Amongst the Catacombs', or even 'Black Seeds...' it ahs a very different sound, from the riffs to the songwriting. Maybe you need to be a fanboy to tell, but I think the difference will become apparent on their next album (in three years' time probs, curse you!).

Anyway, anyone that likes Bolt Thrower that gave disrespect to Nile are being hypocrital. Why change a winning formula? At least Nile haven't done it on as many albums as BT.

I addressed this in the review. Nile carved out a little niche of innovation, then said 'You know what, let's just stop here,' and did exactly that. It smacks to me of hypocrisy and laziness.

Bolt-Thrower have never innovated, they've been the same band since day one, so it's a completely different issue.

The new Nile is different though, some of the riffs are almost metalcorey chugging types (the best I can describe it!), and it seems more stripped down than previous efforts. And why change a winning formula? (2nd time).

BT being the same band since day one isn't lazy? They've survived on a core fanbase, by giving them exactly what they want, over and over (and over) again. It seems to me that that's all that they've capable of giving.

Z, some people (yourself obviously excluded) like the fact that Bolt Thrower sound the same on every record. You can call it laziness, though I don't really think that's completely accurate. Did you ever stop and think that maybe they really like their sound the way it is? Maybe they aren't too keen on perverting into something they might hate just so they can say "Hey look at us, we're not afraid to try new things!" Since when did pandering to your core fan base become a bad thing?

Because people are shit, as a certain crappy band once said. Some bands get ridiculed for producing the same thing again and again, whilst others get praised for it. If Emperor had remade "Nightside", people would have got tired of it, and they wouldn't have the status they have now. Why should BT be praised so much for stagnant crap? Why are people so hypocritical?

Z, don't be a pissant, it doesn't suit you well. How am I being hypocritical? Please, show me one instance where I slammed a band for having the same sound on every album. All I'm saying is, I commend bands for expanding their sound, not because the listening public demands it, but because they genuinely want to. If Bolt Thrower feels like playing the same music on every album, I don't see a big problem there. Maybe they don't want to change just to improve their status quo because they're afraid they'll half ass it. If they don't want to change, then what's the point? Anyway, this is probably a pointless discourse between you and me, as I doubt you will ever realize the greatness of Bolt Thrower, and that saddens me greatly.

I just noticed that the baby in your avatar appears to have a hollow head. Or maybe Bert went vampire and sucked the contents out mid bite.

Did I say you were being hypocritical? No. I said people. You paranid fuck.

To me, it sounds crap. If others want to listen to it, I have no problem. The whole issue got out of hand because in two different threads I said I disliked them because all their songs sound the same. Which they do. And BT can do whatever the hell they like, I'm being extremely selfish here, by saying, I don't like it. OK?

Exactly, let them be. What should sadden you is the starving children of the world, not whether I like some band. People are so shallow nowadays.

Haha, "some Bolt thrower fanboy", touche once again Z. You know what really saddens me? That there exists in this world hot and horny women with low standards and I do not know any of them.

Paranoid? Paranoid? Just because I never use my credit card online, never answer the phone if I don't know who's calling, always drive the speed limit, throw milk away the day it expires, use a security system even though I live in suburbia, and assume your talking about me when you reply to a post I made does NOT make me paranoid.

AHHH, I just remembered my parking meter expired 5 seconds ago, and I'm still 20 seconds away if I sprint! Gotta go!

Your avatar has a dog with a cigar in its mouth. Freud would rip you to pieces, so less of the 'fag'. And we'd better stop this conversation before it gets moved to Helheim. *cowers*.

The new Nile is NOT different. Each song could fit easily on one album or another. Even the more stripped-down efforts could easily be cuts from Festivals of Atonement with different production.

Oh Jesus, you're obviously not getting what I'm saying. Bolt-Thrower have ALWAYS been the same band, and have never tried to progress in the first place. Nile came along, pushed death metal further, and then just stopped. I'd expect better of an innovator.

Why change a winning formula? Dude, you could just as easily say that about Bolt-Thrower.

Don't be so asinine. You're smarter than that.

Only because Death Metal as a genre is quite samey in general, and Nile has a certain atmosphere to all their songs.

Nile innovated from day one. What, they have to push the genre further on every single release? Who are they, Opeth?

I only wrote that out of sarcasm, since that was what everone was saying about BT. If you can say it about BT, you can say it about any other band in existence. Like Darkthrone, for instance. And Nile.

You what? wrote:

Apologeese if you got offended by my asinineness.
