Good review!

Quote:
the combination of Iron Maiden's trademark sound infused with a little of Bruce's solo style would yield phenomenal results. It would be the very thing to breath new life into Maiden. I doubt it will ever happen....we can only dream..............

Compared to his last two albums I didn't find this one as exciting or memorable and would probably score it in the mid 60's. :(

60? cmon the album rocks. By Bruce standards its bad, I also rate Chemical Wedding(a TRULY legendary album), Aob and even Balls to Picasso higher than this but its still a fucking awesome album.

92/100

It can't touch the last two, but it's good.

It does seem a bit rushed, and I wish Adrian Smith had been involved. The new drummer is an improvment over David Ingraham.

You know, I tend not to like track by track reviews but you pulled it off Marty... good job hehe. Anyway, I largely agree with your review. I too enjoyed this CD a lot and hold Chemical Wedding in a very high regard. What I liked about that CD, this one, and also Accident Of Birth, is that it was different than Maiden, but still high quality. I think Bruce's voice sounds better and I like the ranges who uses on his solo work better than those he uses with Maiden.

I do tend to agree with the rushed feeling but it goes away after repeated listens. It does have more of a simplistic nature to it so originally it gave me the impression it wasn't in the same league as Chemical Wedding, but once I gave it a few listens I liked it more and more. Though not as strong as Chemical Wedding (a CD I'd give close 100/100 to) it does a fine job of showing us what Dickinson can do outside of Maiden and I hope he releases solo CDs on a more frequent basis, maybe about 2 or 3 years, as opposed to the 6-7 year wait for this one.

I usually try to avoid mentioning all the tracks in a review but with major releases like this one, it's hard not to. Glad you liked the review and also glad you like the new album. It's still growing on me and it's one of the few albums released so far this year that I really haven't gotten tired of after 4 or 5 listens.........The Chemical Wedding still rules though!!

I think he needs to quit Maiden again in order to do that. And I'd definitely like him to, though I doubt he will.

i really don't know why. a least its not the money; yeah iron maiden are huge but they have to split it into what 7 or 8 guys?. maybe is just some weird chivalric concept of loyalty.

I think Bruce Dickinson is one of the best singers around, so I hope he continues bringing out solo albums next to his Iron Maiden career.
Go Bruce!!! :)

Hey! Stop comparing this with the Chemical wedding!

This is an obvious blend of Accident of birth and Skunkworks (at least for the theme).

Fantastic album

Alas, after finally getting the album I find it rushed and boring. I'd give it about a 55. It seems like a collection of all the tracks that you usually skip while listening to Bruce's other albums.

Better luck next time, though I really do enjoy Navigate the Seas of the Sun.

problem is they are too expensive and they really fucked up Accident of Birth by putting one of the original songs on a bonus disc, and all bonus songs on it are just demos, no new songs.

The vocals are much weaker and more boring than they used to be. Album seems too mild and subdued. Production could be clearer.
