I always thought people praised Tool just abit to much. I like them alot, but I dont think recording sounds of banging sheet metal to be all that great, in fact, other than that Intermission thing from Aenima I really dont like ANY of their in between song things.

However, I like their songs that are.. songs. Which is why I like Undertow the best (Except Disgustipated, like you), Aenima is 2nd best, pretty damned close to tie though. But Lateralus is a really boring album, I can only ever even enjoy maybe half of it (The Grudge, The Patient, Ticks And Leeches, and Parabol/Parabola).

I always found Undertow to be among Tool's worst works.

Tool are a very weird band. Sometimes they rock real hard and can deliver very interesting songs, while sometimes they can be total boredom. I think Aenima is their best album but still I wouldn't rate it above 70. I think i've heard only a couple of songs from Lateralus, didn't like 'em much. When i listen Undertow I feel it's incomplete, the album aslo contains many fillers or probably just too many weird songs. Whatever it is for me to listen to this album it requires me to be in a certain mood, otherwise i'm not touching it.

I would think Undertow would be the album most people would really like, it's much more accessible than thier latter releases. Undertow and the Opiate EP are more straightforward. Great band, though, but definitely a bit harder to get into on Lateralus and Ænima, those albums have a good amount of "mood music," you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy them.

Undertow is excellent though.

Agree with you on Disgustipated. That 10 mins of near silence not only ruins the song, but the entire strong work of the album. Had just expressed my disgust(pun intended) about this fact in an earlier thread. Those agonizing 10 mins apart, an excellent album.

I feel that bands like System of a Down and Tool are at the forefront of what many consider to be Nu Metal. They offer something unique and stand out. I like all Tool, but as someone said earlier, an album like "Undertow" is more accessible than ones such as Ǽenima and Lateralus. To me, that is when they started to sound more industrial. Still good stuff!

Hint: CD players have a "next track" and a "stop" button, either of those will solve your problem.

I love Tool, I kinda overlistened to their stuff 4 years ago, so it's kind of hard for me not to be biased... Lateralus or AEnima is their best, although I might think that because I deleted all the filler songs off my mp3 player

tool is one of those bands to me that if they come on, or if someone starts playing it, i dont mind at all. Ive never really found myself seeking after their music, i think i might have to check this disc out. I think i need to look past the stero typical tool fan, and realize that i can like them too without being shot up on heroin and listening to nu-metal. I think Opeth satisfies my progressive needs, but im gonna go see if i can download this anyway

I fucking think now, why the hell do I not own any Tool albums? I've heard many songs and I've liked all of them a lot and Sober has to be one of the best songs I've heard.

There's something that pushes me away from being a fan of tool. I don't know why.

Me too. Just another of those bands I've never got into.

I actually prefer Lateralus as it is one of the most brilliant albums ever recorded, but Undertow is probably thier warmest, most organic and accessible one. I think a lot of complaints come from Aenima as it does have its share of very boring tracks.

Yea, Lateralus is fucking amazing. It's only real flaw is that it is also as pretentious as it is amazing =P

Yeah, but an excellent album nevertheless. I'm just waiting for the guy to whom i gave it and never got it back. Hope he chokes on his breakfast for this.

I've been a Tool fan for a few years and I must agree that their later works are indeed better, but Sober is still a great song. I found some news a few weeks ago that their new album should be released in Spring this year... 'Bout damn time! I hope that it isn't going to so politically charged like APC's newest... ew. Maynard writes some awe-inspiring lyrics when he doesn't pollute them with "BUSH IS A LIAR TERRORIST WTF" nonsense.
