Some parts are a bit meh, but it's a very solid release overall. Oh, and there is a live version of Episode 666, it's just a kind of easter egg ;)

I got this dvd for my bro and Ben got to reviewing it before i did... lol.. not a problem though. I'm a huge in flames fan but the thing that disapoints me the most is that they recorded some of the Montreal show and they filmed me doing running backflips off the stage into the audience which didn't appear on the DVD... lol.. damn! seriously though, my thoughts on this dvd are virtually the same as Ben's. There is just way to much emphasis on the Soundtrack album, and it really could have had more classic material. Mind you, the second set with classic material is absolutely killer though, artifacts of the black rain seriously kicks major ass and the rest of the classic stuff is really good. In all, it has excellent sound nice recording, but this dvd could have been extremely better and yet extremely worse at the same time. a pretty good dvd from the mind of an In Flames fan boy.

I haven't seen any DVD, but when I saw In Flames live, they were insanely crappy. Even on the old songs. Their crappyness was ridiculous! DT owned the shit out of them, ten times!

... YES, there is a live version of Episode 666 on the DVD, although it doesn't appear on the official song-selection on their official site, or on the DVD songlist itself... I don't know about the DVD you reviewed, or any DVD :).because seeing the setlist, I (in my infinite wisdom :):):) ), and not having precious $$$ to spend on a DVD I mostly wanted to see for the "classic" part....phew....dl :) it...and EPISODE 666 appears on my "version"....it's possible,as said before, to be a "easter-egg" kind of track...anyways it smokes!!!!... and some of my toughts on the DVD...how many times can you put THE SAME SONG (dial 595-something:) " on a official release....man that sucks...although in a live setting there are some songs i enjoy much more than on the album: Dial 595, In Search For I (very good)...and some more...it only shows the fact that SYTE, putting aside the obvious weaknesses, also had a horrible production (for a METAL album that is)....also interesting is the fact that all "newer" solo's/guitar harmonies (you can't call them solo's anymore) are played by Bjorn and only older SOLOS (from Whoracle and older) are played by JESPER?!....the interview part is very solid, cool, they seem a nice, down to earth band...well judging from the interviews they still think of them as a "Metal" Band...sadly their music has evolved into something I pesonally don't enjoy as much as their older stuff....still ok. And as Ben mentioned the Quiet Place...man, how low can it be to sample the cool guitar lick and only play the chugga-chugga parts live.... all in all, although sad:(, it's a good DVD, fully packed with material, excellent for "nu" n'flamez fans, with a little something also for the old.... 7/10

Yes, it should be on the first disc; when you reach the last "official" track (Clayman, if I'm not mistaken), just skip to the next one and you should find it.

So it looks like for those of us looking for a good live dose of pre STYE (still havent heard it) and ReRoute (I liked this album actually) stuff - the Tokoyo Showdown disc is a better buy.

Good review. Thanks for the heads up.

I picked this up for $19.99. Regardless of what songs are not included, you can't beat that price if you're not anti-post-Clayman In Flames.

I'm not really big on live anything unless the band does what Dave Matthews Band does and plays a bunch of unreleased songs, covers, and changes the album songs so they're different. I don't like paint-by-numbers live albums/DVDs, which these are, but for $19.99 that's $5 a CD/DVD and that's just too good a deal to pass up.

I like live DVDs but live CDs are all too often just like a sloppy greatest hits

Are you talking about the Tim Reynolds collaboration?

Not particularly, no, but those songs were very stripped down, and the Tim Reynolds originals made it worth it. DMB release a lot of live albums (I just bought an 8CD/1DVD box from a weekend of shows), the only reason why I don't get pissed about it is because they have tons of unreleased songs they play live, they do a bunch of covers, and they often will take a 5-minute studio track and make a 20-minute jam when played live. Plus, even when they don't extend the songs they often change them up a bit.

Sign of a true artist!

You're right, there has to be some differentiator about a live CD.. consequently I don't own many. I suppose most metal is difficult to turn into an extended jam session or even do alternative takes of.. one reason I like Unleashed In The East so much.

Or just add SOMETHING different! A cover, a few unreleased tunes...SOMETHING.
