Finally! :D
Good review that point out a few things I never really thought about.
But I have to strongly disagree with you on Particles. I find it to be a wonderful introduction to the album, and one of my favourite songs along with Fight Terror with Terror and the majestic Darkness Falls.

Great to see that Nasum got reviewed.

This is probably the best pure grindcore band out there...

R.I.P Mieszko

Is this the review that deathkvlt promised would make us "shit our pants on Monday"?

Don't take this the wrong way...Nasum is awesome, but not worthy of losing a good pair of trousers over.

I think Daniel was referring to a review HE wrote, not one of Aaron's. I'm guessing it will come next week.

It will come next week and it's a Death Metal album, not Grind.

Eh.

Pig Destroyer's Terrifyer is a better CD than Nasum's Shift because Pig Destroyer are actually good at stuff other than 300-bpm-destroy-everything-great-riffs-dude-total-punk-stuff, whereas Nasum are not.

I still love Nasum, but Pig Destroyer are simply better. It's a case of more varied songwriting.

At best, you could argue that Mieszko is a better vocalist than JR Hayes, which would be somewhat true, but JR writes better lyrics.

I'm not a big fan of either band so I won't really comment, just when I want really fast, abrasive music I generally listen to Nasum over Pig Destroyer =\

Grindcore lyrics arent realli that umm hard to write about... most of em arent even about metal... try checking out 'Leng Tch'E - The Process of Elimination'... a great grindcore band... but some of their songs are hilarious in a morbid way... eg. "Dont touch My Spandex", "Bobby Joe's Slumber Party" to name a few... this genre still is good in my book..

Sell me on a Nasum album. I honestly wanna give em a shot. I can respect an album like Shift, enjoyable at a casual level, but short of what I'd wanna own myself. People keep shitting on my parade when I say Machetazo is cool, but Nasum ain't my style. Maybe it means something. Obviously Nasum kicks the shit out of most grind technically, they've got the skill. Must be a matter of what I can and can't relate to. I've heard limited amounts of their earlier full lengths, but who knows, maybe I can find something stronger, and end my lackluster outlook of the band.

Best album. Lay it on me.

Listen to Helvete. It's got the most important aspect of any grind album - consistency. There's only one song that isn't quite as good as the others, and even that one is worth listening to. There's a maniac sense of energy in these guys that takes you back to the first time you heard thrash, or the first time you heard punk. It speaks to something deep and primeval within.

The riffs are crushing, the production is pristine/divine/wondrous/*insert highly complimentary adjective here*, the riffs are crushing, the drumming is absolutely splendid and suitably varied to make you want to keep listening, the screams and screeches are as intense as the last vocalizations of a man struggling to claw his way out of a monstrous mechanical vise that's crushing his lower body before he can never again father children and failing, the blood vessels in his forehead one step away from hemorrhaging violently. It's like a sonic firestorm of violence and hatred.

Oh, and the riffs are crushing. Lots of thrash influence and more than a touch of death, as in Harmony Corruption-era Napalm.

The energy comment you mentioned, that's what's really selling me on Helvete. I'll give it a shot.

Update:

Got the album last night, but was too tired to give it a spin. Had all of today to dick around, so Helvete basically filled my day. After playing it over and over again, with short breaks for other albums in between, I come bearing only good news. Helvete actually grows stronger towards the end, leaving a bittersweet taste... You're pissed it didn't go further, despite being nearly too much to handle in the first place, and thus you cancel out this rather bitter truth with the sweeter side of the reality: Another spin. Good representation of the band, if you ask me.

75-80/100.
